TITLE: Lillian Ann (Guisti) Stocker, Obituary, April 4, 2003 SUBMITTERS: Journal Inquirer Manchester,CT (issue April 5, 2003) FORMATTED: ABishop, April 2003 ***************************************************************************** STOCKER Lillian Ann (Guisti) Stocker, 82, of East Hartford, passed away on Thursday (April 3, 2003) at Hartford Hospital. She was the loving wife of Donald C. Stocker, a multi decorated World War II, combat infantry veteran. She and her husband would have celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary this month. Born on February 19, 1921, in Walpole, Mass., a daughter of the late Alamido and Finimola (Massei) Guisti, she had resided in East Hartford for the past 61 years. She graduated from Walpole High School-Class of 1939 "Toppers". Lillian was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church, East Hartford, where she was a past president, secretary, and treasurer of their Ladies Guild. She had credited her Roman Catholic faith and prayers with bringing Donald safely home after he had been severely wounded during World War II. She worked at Projects, Inc. in Glastonbury, CT until her retirement in 1986. Lillian loved to travel and vacation with family. She and Donald realized their lifelong dreams of visiting all fifty of the United States, traveling to the home of her parents in Lucca, Italy, and returning to European battlefields and cemeteries to honor Donald's fallen comrades. She loved sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, was secretary of a bowling league, and was known to keep scores and statistics of teams and players just because it was fun. She knitted, crocheted, and was proficient in the rare skill of tatting intricate lace borders used to make delicate handkerchiefs. She lived a full and productive life and will be missed as she continues her journey in faith. Besides her parents a brother, Leo Guisti, a sister, Nilda Cunniff, and an infant sister, Eva, predeceased her. Besides her beloved husband of East Hartford, Mrs. Stocker is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald P. and Aline Stocker of East Hartford, David J. and Susan Stocker of Bloomfield, Stephan M. and Barbara Stocker of Enfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Julio and Evelyn Guisti of Dorcester, Mass.; two sisters, Eva Peroni and her husband, Raymond, of Blackstone, Mass., Mary Murphy of Walpole, Mass.; six adored grandchildren, Christopher Stocker and his wife, Cindy, of Mystic, Richard Stocker of Manchester, Matthew Stocker of Blacksburg, Va., Amanda Stocker of Philadelphia, Pa., Holly Stocker of Bloomfield, Claudia Stocker of Enfield; two special great-grandchildren, Deanna and William Stocker, both of Mystic; several nieces and nephews. Among her many lifelong friends, Lillian especially enjoyed the company of Anne and Alfred Corbin of East Hartford, and Helen Lempke of Glastonbury. Funeral service will be Monday (April 7, 2003) at 9:15 AM from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Veterans Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday (April 6th) from 3-6 PM.
