Stanton, 85, of Enfield, beloved husband of the late Carrie (Wicks) Stanton, died at Manchester Manor Nursing Home Monday, June 25, 2001. Bill was born in Worcester Sept. 15, 1915, the son of the late Patrick J. and Mary J. (McKiernan) Stanton. Bill was a veteran of World War II in the European Theater. His great joy was attending Army reunions with his wife, Carrie, every summer, which they did for 50 years. Bill retired from Union Carbide Corp. after 35 years of service. He and Carrie lived in many places around the country during those years and developed many lifelong friendships. They were wonderful neighbors and friends. Bill took great joy in his Irish heritage. Every St. Patrick's Day he looked forward to the hundreds of cards that would pour in from throughout the country. Bill was devoted to his Catholic faith. Bill's loving and devoted wife cared for him during his long illness for five years prior to her death a year ago. Bill is survived by two sisters-in-law, Catherine Wicks of Manchester and Marcia McKeon of Torrington; several close nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews, including Diane Wicks of South Windsor, James Wicks of Coventry, David Wicks of Manchester, Paul Wicks of Manchester, Eugene McKeon of Torrington, Kevin McKeon of Wallingford, and Robert Sackett of East Haven. He is also survived by a favorite cousin, Margaret Ford of Worcester. Bill was predeceased by his infant son, John Stanton, and his brother, the Rev. John P. Stanton. The funeral procession will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 29, at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, Main Street, Manchester. Burial will be in Worcester following the funeral. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 27, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ruel E.
