Senger Richard E. Senger, affectionately known as "The Needler," 76, of Ellington, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at his home. He was the husband of 52 years of Joan (Arnold) Senger. Born in Windsor, son of the late Victor and Maude (Green) Senger, he was a graduate of John Fitch High School. He joined the Merchant Marine, and later the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater in World War II. Mr. Senger had worked for 40 years for Stewart-Warner Co., and later operated Senger's Lube Equipment. He was a member of East Hartford Industrial Bowling League, and Sam's Campaigne Club. He served in the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corp for nine years, was an avid New York Giants fan, and a fan of NASCAR driver Steve Park. Besides his wife, he leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Joy Senger of Ellington; his daughter, Holly Vallee of Florida; his grandchildren, Nichole and Joseph Vallee and Christian and Eric Senger; his brothers, Robert Senger of Bridgton, Maine, and Victor Senger of South Windsor; his sisters, Maude Frederick of Knox, Pa., and Grace Darling of Lady Lake, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; and his pride and joy, Puddles. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Ann Senger. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be at the family's convenience in Ellington Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Ladd-Turkington Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon.
