He was a lifelong resident of Enfield, an Eagle Scout, and a graduate of Howell Cheney Technical School, Manchester. William was an optician in Enfield for many years. William is survived by his parents, Harry and Edna (Hacking) Smith of Enfield; his wife of 13 years, Cathy (Middelaer) Smith; and their two sons, Travis E. and Charles M. Smith, all of Enfield. William is also survived by two brothers, Eric and his wife, Deb Smith, of Somers, and David and his wife, Stephanie Smith, of Enfield; three nieces, Michelle, Amanda, and Juliana Smith; and special friends Michael and Sue Maheux of Enfield. A memorial Mass will be held at noon Friday, June 1, at St. Mary Episcopal Church, 383 Hazard Ave., Enfield. The committal will be at the convenience of the family in Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield. William's family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, (Exit 48 off Interstate 91, east on Route 220 for 1¼ miles).
