Smyth, 69, of Enfield, beloved wife of Robert D. Smyth of 48 years, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Suffield House, Suffield. Mary was born on Oct. 15, 1931, in Enfield and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late John G. and Anna (Kicza) Gnap of Enfield. Mary was a graduate of Enfield High School, Class of 1949. She was formerly employed by W.T. Grants, Thompsonville, and co-owned and operated Smyth Farm Dairy Bar in Enfield for many years. Mary was a life member of the former Polish National Home Association and AARP, and a communicant of St. Bernard Church. She was an avid baseball fan and loved to hate the Boston Red Sox, was actively involved with several area Setback Leagues, and enjoyed reading, traveling, and taking care of her grandchildren. Besides her husband, Robert, Mary was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her four daughters, Susan Morison and her husband, David, Jane Smyth, Mary Leveille and her husband, Marc, and Nancy Lastrina and her husband, Salvatore, all of Enfield; eight grandchildren, Robert and Jennifer Morison, Kerri and Rachael Walsh, and Gina, Kaitlyn, Kristin, and Salvatore Lastrina. Mary also leaves two sisters, Ann Rutherford of Longmeadow, Mass., and Elizabeth Brinn of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, John Gnap, in 1989. A funeral service will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, June 1, at the Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield (Exit 48 off I-91, east on Route 220 for 1¼ miles), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, Enfield. Committal Service will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Enfield. Mary's family and friends will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at the funeral home.
