Smalley Thaddeus J. "Ted" Smalley, 77, of Old County Road, Windsor Locks, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Harborside Health Care -- The Reservoir, West Hartford. Ted was born in Windsor Locks, son of the late Andrew and Sophia (Adamczyk) Smalley, and was a lifelong resident of the community. He was the valedictorian of the Class of 1941 at Windsor Locks High School. He operated Smalley Bros. Construction Co. in Windsor Locks from 1942 to 1988. He was a life member of the Windsor Locks Lions Club for the past 48 years and he housed the ambulance at his garage for many years. He also was a past president of the Italian American Club and the Polish National Home. His hobbies were cooking, gardening, investing, the Lady Huskies, and the Redskins. Ted is survived by his two daughters, Viola "Vi" Smalley of Avon and Justine Bendel of Windsor Locks; a brother, Michael Smalley and his wife, Veronica; a sister, Mary S. Young of Windsor Locks; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Anne Dumas, and three brothers, Edward, Frank, and John Smalley. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 9:15 a.m. Friday, April 27, at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, followed by a procession to St. Mary Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the funeral home.
