He was born Feb. 14, 1911, in New Bedford, Mass., the son of the late Eugene and Isabella Soares. He resided in Enfield most of his life, and in Suffield the past few years. Ernie owned and operated Ernie's Barber Shop in Hazardville for many years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of AARP, the Enfield Senior Citizens Center, the Golden Agers Club, and Holy Family Church, Enfield. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Pauline (Fanelli) Soares; a sister, Alice Costa of Somerset, Mass.; a brother-in-law, Dr. R.J. Fanelli of West Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. A funeral service for Ernie will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Simon Road, Enfield. Committal Service will be held in St. Patrick King St. Cemetery, Enfield. Calling hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. today, May 11, at the funeral home.
