"Nick" Soranno, 84, of Vernon, husband of Victoria (Bankowski) Soranno, passed away Thursday evening, May 3, 2001, at 7:45 p.m., at a local convalescent home. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Antonio and Angela (Geronimo) Soranno. Raised in Brooklyn, Nick was an avid sports fan and played semi-pro baseball and was a semi-pro boxer. He came to Connecticut in 1956 where he was employed as a mechanic by Moriarty Brothers in Manchester. Later, he joined the Town of Manchester Water Department. After his retirement from the Town of Manchester in 1982, he was employed part time by a local condominium association as a security guard. Besides his wife, Victoria, Nick is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Claire Soranno of Hebron; two beloved granddaughters, Rachael and Stephanie Soranno of Hebron; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ida Soranno of Port Jefferson Station, Long Island, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Dolly Procopio; and two brothers, Willie and Frank Soranno. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville. Private burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Rockville.
