Brown buwbrown September 18, 2008, 9:22 am Hebron, Selectmen's Copy Book, 1875-1898: Feb. 17, 1875: Stonington to Hebron. Amos Hallam has not been a resident here for over 20 years. I think his residence has been in the town of Groton. He has been dead several months. Mar. 15, 1875: Hebron to New London. Bill for support & removal of Mrs. Hallam. Mrs. Hallam has a feather bed at her sister's, also a bedstead & chest of drawers. Mar. 20, 1875: East Haddam to Hebron. It is nearly 40 years since Mrs, Hallam married Henry Dingwell of Middle Haddam, where he owned a small place. I think you will have to look to Chatham; I don't think she ever had a residence in this town. Mar. 20, 1875: Norwich to Hebron. Lionel Coates, wife Alice & 3 children (Winfield, 8; Edward, 4; Alice, 3) have again called for help. Mar. 24, 1875: Montville to Hebron. Sarah Wicks here on expense. Mar. 30, 1875: Hebron to Montville. If Sarah Wicks is the wife of John Wicks, she belongs where he does. According to our understanding, he belongs to Montville or Salem (we think Montville). John Wicks lived here for several years but did not gain a residence. Apr. 1, 1875: Chaplin to Hebron. James N. Bacon, wife Martha A. & 4 children (John T., ae 9; Annie A., ae 7; Minnie A., ae 6; Freddie L., ae 4) on expense. Apr. 9, 1875: Hebron to Chaplin. James L. Bacon lived here for several years with his father, but they left here when he was a boy, about 20 years ago (we think they went to Greenville). /This town assisted Henry Walton last year and notified your town. He is now supporting himself with help from private parties. Apr. 8, 1875: Chaplin to Hebron. A relative of James N. Bacon has informed me that places will be found for his children in Rockville; Mrs. Bacon will probably remain at her father's. (Mrs. Bacon left for her father's and he left quite suddenly.) Apr. 21, 1875: Hebron to N.B. Hale, Esq. Your wife Sarah M. Hale is not in this town, was never a resident here. I understand she is in Columbia. May 27, 1875: Chaplin to Hebron. Martha A. Bacon is in destitute circumstances. June 9, 1875: Hebron to Chaplin. Martha A. Bacon is not an inhabitant and never was. June 14, 1875: Chaplin to Hebron. J.N. Bacon is 37; he left Hebron when ae 17. Mrs. Bacon now on expense, and we shall soon notify you of another, when born. June 28, 1875: Hebron to Chaplin. We think Bacon's father gained a settlement in Norwich. June 27, 1875: Coventry to Hebron. Daniel Rogers and his wife Huldah in this town on expense on account of sickness. July 23, 1875: Chaplin to Hebron. James M. Bacon has a child in this town, not yet named. Aug. 2, 1875: Hebron to Coventry. The father of Daniel Rogers never was an inhabitant here. A man by the name of Daniel Rogers married and lived in Marlborough over 30 years ago. Aug. 2, 1875: Hebron to New London. Reminder of bill for Mrs. Hallam. Aug. 16, 1875: Salem to Hebron. Harriet Beckwith on expense. Aug. 24, 1875: Hebron to Salem. A family of the name of Beckwith lived in this town more than 30 years ago, but only for a short time and did not gain a settlement here. Aug. 18, 1875: Columbia to Hebron. Charles H. Hills is at the house of Elisha Lewis, sick & on expense. Aug. 21, 1875: Willimantic (Windham) to Hebron. William Leader, his wife Lucinda and children (Amelia, ae 9; John W., ae 7; Lilley, ae 5; Nilsn (sic) and Wilber, sick twins; Wilber died today) are on expense. Aug. 24, 1875: Hebron to Windham. No such man as William Leader ever lived here. If he is a German by the name of Leedes, as I think probable, he lived here last year but is not an inhabitant. You had better look to Colchester. Sept. 20, 1875: Henron to Chaplin. Paid bill for family of James N. Bacon. Oct. 27, 1875: Glastonbury to Hebron. William Ahern & family on expense; have all been sick with the fever, and one has died. Two of his young children are sick now. Dec. 13, 1875: Hebron to Andover. John O.Peters (colored), wife and 4 children: Mary, ae 11; Amelia, ae 9; Freddie, ae 4; Lucy, ae 8 mo. Dec. 13, 1875: Hebron to Lebanon. Mary Deming (widow of Nelson Deming, colored) is on expense. Dec. 13, 1875: Glastonbury to Hebron. William Ahern, wife and 6 children on expense. Dec. 30, 1875: Hartford to Hebron. Lucy Seymour, wife of Austin Seymour (colored), & her child are on expense. Dec. 16, 1875: Hebron to Glastonbury. William Ahern lived in Hebron (Gilead Society) for several years but did not gain a settlement. He is an unnaturalized alien. /Cornelius Russell, his wife Sarah & 5 children (Ruby, ae 10; Nellie, ae 6; Mary, ae 3; Roswell, ae 2) are on expense. Dec. 25, 1875: Hebron to Franklin. Mary Deming, widow of Nelson Deming (colored) on expense. Dec. 13, 1875: Wildham to Hebron. Bill for supplies for Eliza Ann Bailey (Dec. 24, 1873-Jan. 22, 1874). Dec. 27, 1875: Hebron to Windham. Eliza Ann Bailey is the divorced wife of Edwin S. Bailey and has settlement where he is, probably the town of Haddam. Dec. 20, 1875: Lebanon to Hebron. Mary Deming was never the wife of Nelson Deming. Dec. 27, 1875: Glastonbury to Hebron. We have just had a law suit before the Court of Common Pleas; the court decided that unnamed pauper had lived six years in Glastonbury and gained a pauper settlement. The pauper was born in Germany, came to Glastonbury a minor, lived here six years, and we had to pay the bills. Ahern case is similar, so we expect Hebron to pay. /Paid bill for coffin for Cornelius Russell's child.
