Brown buwbrown September 18, 2008, 3:09 pm Hebron, Selectmen's Copy Book, 1875-1898: Jan. 3, 1877: Montville to Hebron. John Wicks or Weeks is on expense. Jan. 17, 1877: Hebron to Montville. John Wicks lived here several years but did not gain a settlement. To my knowledge he belongs to Salem or Montville, probably the latter place. Jan. 20, 1877: Hebron to Chaplin. Henry Walton and wife on expense. Mrs. Walton has been sick several months and is now confined to her bed. Mr. Walton works at his trade when he has work to do. Jan. 20, 1877: Manchester to Hebron. Diodate Wilson and family are on expense. Jan. 22, 1877: Hebron to Manchester. Diodate Wilson is not an inhabitant; you had better look to Chatham. Jan. 24, 1877: Hebron to Chaplin. Ella Wood (formerly Mack) is on expense. Feb. 8, 1877: Hebron to Chaplin. Mrs. Walton still sick & her recovery doubtful. They have 4 children at home. Feb. 9, 1877: Chaplin to Hebron. Ella Wood's father belonged to Windsor. Her husband came to Chaplin from Farmington, lived here about 2 years. He married before he was 21. I think that they belong to Farmington; I think his father's name is Joseph Wood. Feb. 15, 1877: Hebron to Portland. Mrs. Sarah M. Hale, wife of N.B. Hale, is on expense. Feb. 15, 1877: Hebron to Windsor. Mrs. Ella Wood (formerly Mack) is on expense. Feb. 20, 1877: Mansfield to Bebron. Mrs. Martha A. Bacon, wife of James M. Bacon, and Nellie E. Bacon, their child, on expense. Feb. 24, 1877: Hebron to Windsor. Wood has no property that can be got hold of, but he has a good trade (blacksmith) & could support his wife if he would. She ran away some time ago, was gone 4 days, and in the meantime he got another housekeeper & has got her there yet. (Mrs. Wood) will probably be confined next month. Feb. 27, 1877: Hebron to Mansfield. James M. Bacon and family belong to Windham. He has no pauper settlement in this state in his own right. Mar. 5, 1877: Windham to Hebron. Mrs. Martha Bacon and child "of last winter's notoriety"....Mrs. Bacon is in a family way by a young French Canadian who has left these parts. She lives on the old road from Windham to Mansfield, near the river, 2 1/2 miles from Willimantic, with a man by the name of Maine. Mar. 9, 1877: Hebron to Windham. Mrs. Martha Bacon belongs to Windham. Mar. 5, 1877: Mansfield to Hebron. Martha A. Bacon and child, Nellie E., on expense. She says the town of Hebron took her from the town of Chaplin when her child was five weeks old and supported her. Mar. 19, 1877: Mansfield to Hebron. Mrs. Martha A. Bacon has an infant daughter. She is a legitimate pauper of Hebron, as you took her and her child Nellie E. from Chaplin some 2 years since. Mar. 14, 1877: Windham to Hebron. Daniel Rogers, his wife & 4 children (Miles, ae 10; David, ae 7; Daniel, ae 4; Edward, a nursing child). Daniel Rogers is about 40; he says he was born in Hebron and lived there until he was about 7 years old. He was a soldier in the last war; he married in the State of Virginia, and the 3 oldest children were born there, the youngest being born in Windham. He is a shoemaker and has been in this town about 6 months. Mar. 27, 1877: Hebron to Windham. We can find no trace of a Daniel Rogers ever having lived in Hebron. There was a family by that name which formerly lived in Andover. Mar. 20, 1877: Glastonbury to Hebron. You may let Cornelius Russell have some help and bill the town of Glastonbury. Apr. 7, 1877: Portland to Hebron. Paid bill for keeping Mrs. Sarah M. Hall (sic). Apr. 18, 1877: Hebron to Glastonbury. John Goss and family on expense; John A. Goss, his wife Nancy E. Charles Warrender, wife Sarah, and children (William, Abraham L., Sarah, James, Thomas and one other) on expense. Apr. 26, 1866: West Hartford to Hebron. Where did Warrenders live in this town; we are not familiar with the name. May 17, 1877: Hebron to Mansfield. James M. Bacon claims to have been married 3 times. In investigating the matter, I cannot find that he was ever divorced from his first wife. His wife, now living in Manchester, says she never had notification of an application for divorce. If not, the last two marriages are void, and Martha A. belongs to Windham. Bacon is a hypocritical scalawag and deserves to be dealt with by the law (if he can be reached by it). July 20, 1877: Hebron to Glastonbury. Cornelius Russell, wife Sarah & children are again on expense. Apr. 21, 1877: Glastonbury to Hebron. John Goss never had a residence here. /George O. Peters belongs to Middletown. The Peters family has been helped by the town of Middletown for a long time. Sept. 7, 1877: Hebron to Middletown. George S. Some years ago we looked into the matter of the Grey family and found at that time they belonged to Manchester. Feb. 12, 1878: Hebron to Montville. Hebron to Montville. David Penhallow was not born in Hebron. His friends here think he was born somewhere in Massachusetts. Apr. 4, 1878: Hebron to Waterford. Lucina Weeks, wife of John WQeeksa, is on expense. Mar. 8, 1878: Colchester to Hebron. Martha Chamberlain, wife of William B. Chamberlain, is at our alms house. Mar. 11, 1878: Hebron to Colchester. Yestersay I was down to see the Binghams. I think Charles' wife will live only a very short time. He has another wife living, and his friends tell me there was never a divorce. On the other hand, Charles tells me that his first wife had another husband when he married her. Oliver Bingham has been over ten years in Hebron.
