Porter has applied for assistance. Jan. 5, 1881: Plainville to Hebron. Charles D. Gray, wife & 3 children (Annette, ae 13; Arthur, ae 10; Alice, ae 3) on expense. Destitute. Mrs. Gray has been sick a good deal of the time. Boy and girl, ae 13 & 10, worked out last summer but are now home. Jan. 15, 1881: Hebron to Montville. Bill for goods furnished Mrs. John Weeks, Feb. 9-Dec. 28, 1880. Jan. 22, 1881: East Hampton to Hebron. Frederick A. Brown has a wife & child on expense here. Jan. 26, 1881: Hebron to East Hampton. Frederick A. Brown not an inhabitant. He came into this town with a family by the name of Barber but did not live here long enough to gain a settlement. Jan. 31, 1881: Manchester to Hebron. Mrs. Ruth Wilson, now living in this town with her son-in-law, John E. Harris, is on expense. She is ae 81. Feb. 2, 1881: Hebron to Manchester. Mrs. Ruth Wilson: you had better look to Marlborough or Chatham. Feb. 8, 1881: Plainville to Hebron. What should be done with Mrs. Gray and her children? Feb. 8, 1881: Hebron to Windham. Antrim sick & on expense. Austin Seymour does not belong to this town. Feb. 12, 1881: Hebron to Chatham. Selden Williams on expense. Up to the time he was ae 70 he lived away from Hebron more or less; since he reached ae 70, he has moved and lived out of this town at least 4 times. Feb. 16, 1881: Chatham to Hebron. Selden Williams not an inhabitant. Mar. 3, 1881: Hebron to Marlborough. Medical attendance for James N. Culver, Apr. 14-Sept. 30, 1881. Funeral expenses, Oct. 18, 1881. Mar. 15, 1881: Plainville to Hebron. Mrs. Gray is not any better and may drop off sudden. He wants to know if anything has been done to secure him a pension. Mar. 4, 1881: Plainville to Hebron. Mr. Gray is worse (consumption), and his boy (ae 8 or 10) is now sick, possibly with diphtheria. Re pension: enlisted as Dennison Gray, 1st Conn. Heavy Artillery, Co. A. Enl. as musician under Capt. Gilbert on Jan. 31, 1862 for 3 years; discharged for disability Oct. 8, 1862 ae 25. Apr. 23, 1881: Hebron to Coventry. Augustus Woodworth is on expense. Apr. 29, 1881: Hebron to Glastonbury. Joel Peters or Joel C. Peters is on expense. June 1, 1881: Selectmen of Hebron to H.M. Shaw, Supt. of Insane Hospital at Middletown: Payment for board of Mary A. Warrender, Apr. 30-June 1. May 5, 1881: Hebron to Glastonbury. Joel C. Peters has been sick but is now getting better. May 6, 1881: Plainville to Hebron. Bill for assistance to C.D. Gray's family. They need some clothing & have no means whatsoever. Mr. Gray hardly able to sit up. May 20, 1881: Manchester to Hebron. Mrs. Ruth Wilson is an inhabitant of Hebron & we look to you for her support. Bill for supporting Mrs. Ruth Wilson Jan. 26-May 16, 1881. July 26, 1881: Hebron to Plainville. Money for support of Gray family. Aug. 17, 1881: Selectmen of Hebron to Mr. & Mrs. John Harris of Manchester. The Selectmen of Manchester have informed me that you have requested more for support of Mrs. Ruth Wilson. We will pay you $3.00 a month; if this is not sufficient, we will bring her here. That should be enough for her support even if you receive nothing from her other children. Sept. 6, 1881: John Harris to Selectmen of Hebron. Will continue to support Mrs. Wilson. There is little prospect of help from her other children. Aug. 2, 1881: Plainville to Hebron. Yesterday Mr. Gray's son Arthur was kicked by a horse and died this morning at 2 o'clock. We buried him this afternoon at Bristol where they had one child buried. He was 11 years old. Sept. 14, 1881: Hebron to Coventry. Bill for keeping Augustus Woodworth when sick 2 weeks. Dec. 5, 1881: Hebron to Insane Hospital at Middletown. Payment for board of Mary A. Warrender to Dec. 1.
