Pease, veteran druggist and pioneer citizen, which occurred Monday night in his apartment in the Virginia House, will be read with genuine sorrow by his many friends throughout the county and elsewhere. He had been practically helpless for three to four years before his death due to the encroachments of age and physicial infirmities which could not be reached through the usual remedial agencies but by means of a roller chair he was able to get out among his friends occasionally and maintained a spirit of cheerfulness almost to the last. Friday night he suffered a sudden collapse and remained in a semi-conscious condition until 11 o'clock Monday night when he died. Dr. Pease was 82 years of age. He was a native of Connecticut and came to Newnan in 1854 or 1855 and engaged in the drug business. He was associated with the late Dr. J.T. Reese continuously from the time he came to Newnan and when Dr. Reese died, he continued to manage the business. About five years ago he retired from active pursuits and during his remaining days sought only rest and quietude. He was a remarkable character in many respects and probably the oldest and most widely known druggist in the state. He was never married, his only relatives being two nieces and three nephews who reside in Massachusetts. The funeral took place Tuesday morning, services being held in the parlors of the Virginia House. Rev. J.B.S. Davis who officiated, paid a splendid tribute to the dead man and brief talks were made also by Dr. Jas. Stacy and Rev. W.J. Cotter. The remains were carried to Somers, Conn., for interment, the corpse being accompanied from Newnan by Mr. H.H. North. John Spann, Dr. Pease's faithful colored attendant for several years was also taken along by Mr. North.
