There is some estate which belongs to said Robert by the estate of his father, Edward Colburn, deceased. The town is to sue for said sum to apply to Robert's expenses. Jan. 31, 1763 John Lombard by mismanagement and bad husbandry in danger of becoming a burden to the town; Isaiah Williams of Canterbury appointed as his overseer for 1 year from date Mar. 27, 1764 Town took into its care Darius Cady and his family on Apr. 11 last; he now to be released from such care Mar. 28, 1764 Benjamin Shepard appointed overseer to Darius Cady, who by mismanagement, etc., in danger of becoming a burder to the town Jan. 25, 1768 Plainfield has certified that if Canterbury will let Joseph Burgess and wife live in town, Plainfield will be responsible for them Dec. 5, 1768 Town voted to pay Dr. David Adams' bill for doctoring Nathan Gorham, a poor distrated person Dec. 28, 1772 Town appointed an agent to sue for an recover a mantenance for Jonathan Raynsford (who has been provided for out of the town treasury for some time past) out of the estate which his father, Edward Raynsford, late of Canterbury deceased, died seized of Dec. 28, 1772 Voted to pay Dr. John Spalding for doctoring Rufus Darby, son of Eleazar Darby, last spring Feb. 3, 1777 Settled accounts of Messrs. Richard and Joseph Raynsford against the town on account of their brother, Jonathan Raynsford Jan. 16, 1781 David Enos, a transient person, has enlisted for the war in the Continental Army and is now serving. Charles Justin of Canterbury also now serving. Mar. 8, 1781 Curtis Cleveland, Nathaniel Gates and Silas Glass now in the armed service; to have their rates abated June 11, 1781 Committee appointed to investigate accounts for the support of Sarah Rogers nd for her doctoring and nursing Dec. 9, 1781 Soldiers' families to be furnished with supplies: Nathaniel Gates, Silas Glass, Benjamin Brown Jr., Curtis Cleveland, Benjamin Durfee, Ens. John Cleveland, Samuel Adams, Abiel Farnam, Daniel Cushman, James Duggan, Robert Herrick and Adnrew Hubbard Feb. 7, 1783 Voted to pay a sum to enable William Cooper to remove himself, his family & his effects to Pownal Aug. 21, 1792 Voted to pay Dr. Luther Manning's bill v. widow Coilburn for attending her husband as physician Apr. 8, 1793 Town to commence suit v. East Windsor or Ellington for the support of Zenas Cleveland and family. Voted to commence suit v. Jeremiah Mott Jr. for his support. Dec. 5, 1796 Town to pay a sum to enable Polly McCarty to prosecute her action of maintenance v. James Dorrance of Hampton at Court of Common Pleas in Windham Apr. 13, 1801 Selectmen to make further enquiries into situation of Ruth Barber alias Ruth Stevens Nov. 9, 1801 Town to commence suit v. Lisbon in case of Ruth Barber alias Ruth Stevens Nov. 7, 1801 Town voted to appeal the decision of Windham County Superior Court, case of Canterbury v. Lisbon, concerning Ruth Barber Apr. 8, 1805 Town to commence suit v. estate of Ruth Barber of Canterbury, deceased, for purpose of recovering debt due the town from said Ruth Barber Apr. 22, 1808 The town's representatives to the General Assembly to make inquiry concerning Prince, a free Negro, in order to ascertain the company and regiment he belonged to in the Revolutionary War, to find his nme on the pension book, to find when his pension was paid and when due, etc. Nov. 7, 1808 Daniel Frost and Luther Paine Esq. appointed agents to make further search into affairs of Prince Negro Apr. 10, 1809 Selectmen to settle accounts between Mr. William Perkins of Canterbury, deceased, and his son, Leonard Perkins.
