This 7 day of June A.D. 1802 – I William Handfield of Ashford in the county of Windham & state of Connecticut in new England – being advanced in years and decline of life although of a sound and disposing mind & memory thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed to all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say, principaly [sic] & above all I recommend my soul into the hand of God as he gave it, & my body to the dust to dust to be buried in a decent & christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named, nothing doubting but that at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the might powers of God. And as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give bequeath & dispose of the same in __ manner following (viz) I give & bequeath to my beloved nephew Benjamin Handfield all my landed property, after all my just debts are paid out of it - & any other legacy hereafter mentioned. I also give to sd Benjamin all my stock of every kind. Likewise, all my wearing apparel of any kind. I give & bequeath to my well beloved sister Hannah or her heirs four dollars, to be paid by my Executor. I give & bequeath to the heirs of my deceased wife all my household furniture of every kind. And I nominate, constitute & appoint my nephew Benjn. Handfield to be & only Executor to this my last will & testament revoking & disannulling all former wills & testaments by me made, publishing pronouncing & declaring this & only this to be my last will & testament. Signed, sealed, published, pronounced & declared to be my last will & testament in presence of Wm Stoms (Storm?) his Peter Eastman William X Handfield Caleb Carpenter mark Windham County, __ Ashford 30 Dec 1802 Personally appeared the Rev William Stoms (Storm?), Peter Eastman and Caleb Carpenter witnesses to the within instrument and made solem [sic] oath that they and each of them saw the testator sign the same and heard him publish and declare it to be his last will and testament and that he appeared to be of sound mind and memory and that they witnessed the same in his presence and in presence of each other. Before Abel Simmons Jr Justice Peace At a Probate Court held at Pomfret in the District of Pomfret January the 4th AD 1803 present Tho.
