In Judge Miller’s court yesterday John Beverly and Posy Voss, both colored, were called on to plead to the charge of highway robbery. Policemen Evans and Foley, of the Eight[h] Precinct, who made the arrest on complaint of James Harrington, told the court how Harrington had identified the two men as the ones who had assaulted and robbed him at the corner of R and Second streets Saturday night. Beverly and Voss made a poor defense, and as a result Judge Miller held them in $500 bonds to await the action of Grand Jury. In the default of the bonds they were committed to jail. The Washington Post, January 21, 1896, pg. 4 Old Farmer Scott Goes Free. Farmer John R. Scott, who lives near Fairfax Court House, and was arrested last week for carrying concealed weapons, had his hearing before Judge Miller yesterday. Farmer Scott claimed that he was the victim of a family conspiracy, growing out of divorce proceedings which he had instituted against his wife in Virginia. In his opinion his arrest was made to influence this case. Judge Miller was evidently of the same opinion, for he discharged the prisoner.
