Born in Tarboro, NC, Mr. Gray came to the District in the 1930s and worked as a barber before joining the police force in 1943. He retired as a private last year because of poor health. Mr. Gray was a member of Pilgrim AME Church in Northeast Washington. Surviving are his wife Arabelle; a daughter, Mrs. John Morgan; a son, Franchot; and two brothers, Matthew and Louis, all of Washington; two sisters, Minnie Gray Woodley of Tarboro, and Carrie Gray Baker of Linden, NJ, and a granddaughter.
