Brown buwbrown@comcast.net August 29, 2008, 10:21 am Original death notice from unknown paper, Washington, DC Death of a well-known citizen.- Mr. Newell B. Walker died at his residence, 1011 M Street northwest, at 4 o'clock this morning, of consumption. He had been ill for about six months. Mr. Walker was about fifty-six years of age and a native of Vermont. He was appointed to a position in the office of the Register of the Treasury in September, 1870, and at one time was the disbursing officer of that Bureau. He afterward became the chief of the tonnage division, which position he held until the division was tranferred to the Bureau of Navigation. He resigned September 30, 1885, since which time he has been connected with the Barber Asphalt Co., of this city. He was a quiet, retired man, much liked by all of his associates.
