Travel east from Dover on Delaware Rte 8 to Quaker Lane. Turn left north)on to Quaker Lane and proceed for approximately 3/4 mile. The walled cemetery is located on the right side of the road. Across the road from the cemetery is an old Quaker meeting house which is privately owned and according to local residents was to be remodeled into a private residence. The following information was copied from tombstones located in the Northeast corner of the cemetery. William Cowgill Angelica S. Cowgill b 11th Mo 16th 1837 b 6th Mo 6tht 1874 d 2nd Mo 28th 1923 d 11th Mo 6th 1926 Jacob S. Large Above Ground Vault: Daniel Cowgill Husband of Elizabeth Reed Cowgill Son of Ezekiel & Sarah Corbon Millechop Cowgill Born September 8, 1825 Died June 16, 1903 Levic Palmer Cowgill b 5th Mo 18th 1835 d 3rd Mo 22nd 1915 Small Stone Etched on Top: Sarah Cowgill (No other markings) Died in Her 89: Year There are numerous other tombstones in the cemetery but due to rain I did not attempt to copy the inscriptions on any but Cowgill grave sites. Due to rain it was impossible to make rubbings. A rubbing might have been able to determine the illegible name on one stone. Local residents I spoke with after visiting the cemetery indicated that they thought a Quaker Meeting in nearby Camden, Delaware may be trying to maintain the cemetery. I did not have time to locate the Meeting House and possibly a member to inquire about the cemetery and any possible burial records. It did appear that someone has been keeping the grass cut to reasonable levels and some large overgrown shrubs had been removed near the grave sites of William Cowgill, Angelica S. Cowgill and Sarah Cowgill. Date of Visit: 23 Nov 1999 Claiborne W. Cowgill 2219 E. Tahitian Way Gilbert, AZ 85234 ----------The End----------
