                1883 DE Will - Shadrack Raughley

I Shadrack Raughley, of Mispillion Hundred Kent County and State of Delaware,
do make and execute this instrument of writing as and for my last will and
testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.

Item first:  I direct that all my estate real, personal and mixed be valued or
appraised at the cash value thereof according to the judgment of three
disinterested freeholders to be appointed by the Register of wills at Dover, in
and for Kent County aforesaid, at the time of grant letters of Administration
under this my will; and all except my real estate, to be converted into money.
The amount thus obtained to be added to the valuation of my real estate, and
returned to the said Register as a foundation for a division thereof as
hereinafter directed.

Item Second:  After paying all liabilities to which my estate may in law be
subject to pay, the residue I direct to be divided into three equal parts, one
of these parts or one equal third part thereof, I give and bequeath unto my
grand daughter, Anna Pennewill, daughter of Caleb S. Pennewill; and the
remaining two thirds, thereof including the whole of my real estate I give and
devise unto my daughter Mary Ellen Burdick, and unto her children, their heirs,
and assigns forever to be under her and their sole control and management.

Provided however, in the division of my estate as herein before directed, if
there should not be sufficient of the personal estate to equal one third as
bequeathed my grand daughter Anna Pennewill, then, and in this case I direct
any such deficiency to be paid out of the rents of my real estate.

Item Third:  I hereby constitute and appoint my friend Zebulon Hopkins, Sole
Executor of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of
December in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and
Seventy-Six.

I Shadrack Raughley, having made and executed my last will and testament
bearing date December sixteenth day A.D. Eighteen hundred and seventy-six,
do hereby make and execute this writing as a Codicil thereto, and direct the
same to be attached thereto, and taken as a part thereof.

I desire hereby to alter my said will so far only, as to erase the name of
Zebulon Hopkins, therein named as my executor, and substitute in lieu thereof
the name of Caleb S. Pennewill, as my executor.

As witness my and and seal this thirtieth day of July in the year of our Lord
One thousand eight hundred and eighty three.
