I John Dickey of Wilmington in the County of Newcastle on Delaware being weak of Body but of sound disposing mind and memory thanks be to God for the same, and calling to mind that all flesh must die. I therefore do constitute make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following: That is to say -- First I committ my Body to the Earth from whence it came to be decently buryed by my Executors hereafter named and my soul to God who gave it hoping to find find a blessed and Joyfull Resurrection by the mediation of his Son Christ Jesus our Lord who suffered Death for me and all mankind under Pontius Pilate without the Gates of Jerusalem. Secondly I will that my just Debts and funerall Charges be fully satifsfyed and discharged by my Executors hereafter named. Thirdly I Give and Bequeath unto my beloved wife Elisabeth Dickey six pounds a year for and during her Naturall Life to be paid out of my Estate yearly by my Executors hereafter named provided and upon this condition that she my said Wife shall deliver up to my said Executors a Certain Bond of fifty Pounds now lodged in the hands of John Miller for her use but if the said Bond is not delivered up as aforesaid that then the said Bond of Fifty Pounds shall be and is hereby given her in Liew of her Dowry. I likewise give and bequeath unto my said wife all her wearing Apparel with one Bed one Bolster two sheets two blankets one Rugg one spinning wheel she complying with the delivering up the former Contract and Bond as aforesaid. I likewise give unto her one brass Kettle Fourthly I give and bequeath unto my beloved son James Dickey Eighty Pounds to be paid unto him by my Executors hereafter named [illegible] of my Plantation Fifthly I give and bequeath unto my beloved Son Thomas Dickey Eighty Pounds to be paid unto him by my Executors hereafter named out of the money arising from the Sale of my Plantation as soon as the same shall come into the hands of my said Executors. Sixthly I Give and bequeath unto my Beloved grand Daughter Martha Dickey Daughter of my son Robt Dickey deceased fifty Pounds to be placed out to Interest at the discression of my Executors hereafter named for her use untill she shall arive to the age of Eighteen years as soon as my said Executors can collect in my money and as I have sent for her from Carolina my will is that my Executors take care of her and convey her to her uncle John Foster. Seventhly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Margaret Cowpland forty Pounds to be paid unto her by my Executors hereafter named as soon (as they can collect in my money) after by Decease. Eightly I give and bequeath unto my two Grandsons Thomas and Philip Cowpland Ten pounds each to be placed out to Interest at the discression of my Executors hereafter named untill they shall arive to the age of twenty one years. Ninthly all the rest and Residue of my Estate I give and bequeath unto my Beloved wife Elisabeth Dickey my beloved son John and Daughter Mary Mcomsey and my beloved son William Dickey to be equally divided between them share and share alike. Tenthly I do hereby Consitute make an apoint my friends James Adams and Caleb Sheward to be my Executors of this my last will and Testament hereby revolking all former Will and Wills at any time or times before this be me made Ratifying and confirming this to be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I the said John Dickey have hereunto sett my Hand and Seal this twenty second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred and seventy two 1772. John (his D mark) Dickey Signed sealed Published pronounced and Declared by the said John Dickey the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us John Hawkins, George Wikel(?), Abraham Ford Personally appeared before me John Hawkins and Abraham Ford two of the Subscribing Evidence to the within Will and being duly sworn do say that they did see and hear John Dickey sign seal publish pronounce and declare the within Instrument of writing as his last Will and Testament that at the time of so doing and saying he was (to the best of their belief) of sound and disposing mind and memory that they did sign their names as evidences thereunto at his request and in his presence and that they did see George Wikel (?) Sign as one other Evidence at the same time In Testimony whereof l' have hereunto set my hand at Newcastle this twenty fourth day of July 1772. Theodore Maurice Regr Be it Remembered That on the twenty fourth day of July AD 1772 the last Will and Testament of John Dickey decd in Due Form of Law and Probate and Letters Testamentary thereof were granted to James Adams who being Sworn and Caleb Sheward being affirmed (Executors in the same Will named) Well and truly to administer the Estate of the said decd and to exhibit an Inventory thereof into the Registers office at Newcastle on or before the twenty fourth day of January next and Render a True and just Account of their Administration when thereunto legally required Given under the Seal of said Office.
