Cemetery is on Road 61, south of Road 428. A recent State Marker was installed. By the 1840's, a group of local Mthodists were meeting nearby in Jones School. Desiring a permanent place of worship, the congregation built a church in 1857 at a site one-half mile west of here. In 1861, Jacob Jones and his wife, Love Melson Jones, set aside half an acre of land at this location to serve as a burial place for the members of Jones Methodist Episcopal church. Declining attendance eventually led to the closing of the church, which was formally abandoned in 1956. The cemetery is maintained by the descendants of Jacob Jones and Joseph W. Lewis." Delaware Public Archives-2001 SC-141 The following list of names are of those buried in the Jacob Jones Cemetery. The list comes mostly from one listed in the family history titled "Jacob S. and Mary Jones of lower Sussex County, Delaware, ca 1750-1978". Said book was written by Pauline Jones Mills and Walter H. Jones. Said book was completed Jan. 1979. I am a direct descendant of said Jacob Jones. This list covers the period from 1861-1924. There have been some burials since, only a few of which have been added to the original list.
