The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ************************************************************************ Will of George Clendaniel, transcribed September 11, 2000 by Dawn Clendaniel Kifer George Clendaniel Senr' last will and testament In the name of God Amen, I George Clendaniel Senr, of Cedar Creek hundred, of Sussex County, in the state of Delaware, being weak of mind but of a sound mind and memory (thanks be to God for the same) but calling to mind the uncertainty of life and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, after reccomending my soul to him who gave it and my body to be buried in a christian like manner, do now distibute that portion of worldly estate with wich it pleased Almighty God to bless me with in manner and form following After all my just debts and funeral charges are paid. Item: i give and bequeath my beloved wife Gemima Clendaniel, two beds and reasonable furnitures for the same, one desk, one dining table, one candle stand, six chairs, 1 great wheel and two spinning wheels, two iron pots; one dutch oven, one frying pan, one teakettle, one pot-ha_el(transcribers note: could not read all letters in that word) One pair of fire tongs and shovel, all my cubboard ware, one cow, six head of sheep, one set of silver tea service, one set of knives and forks, and one place of and irons. Also I give and bequeath to my said wife Gemima Clendaniel all the lands that i have bought of the hiers of James Rickards (deceased). And also 80 acres of land adjoining the above mentioned lands, which formerly belonged to Leslie John Townsend, which I bequeath to her for her right of dower in all my lands to have and to hold the same dowering all her natural life. And she is not to clear away more of the land i have bequeathed to her,not to cut and waste the timber or suffer it to be done by any other person or persons. And if she does not abide to do this my last will but will have her dower _?_{ transcribers note: cannot read word} off in all my lands. Then my will that she shall not have any of the personal property that I have bequeathed her. I give and bequeath all the above described real personal property to her during her natural life and no longer. Item: I give and bequeath to my son George clendaniel all the property I have heretofore given to him and also my still and all my cider works and casks and all things belonging to said cider works and distillery. I also give and bequeath to my son George Clendaniel the farm whereon I now reside and all my lands adjoining the same to have and to hold the same during his natural life for the purpose of enabling him to suppot and educate his children and not to be transferred to be sold or rented for the payment of any debt or debts that may or shall be brought against the said George Clendaniel, and after the death of my said son George Clendaniel my will is that all the lands that I have bequeathed to my said son George Clendaniel, to be equally divided between all his children, now born or may hereafter be born, lawfully begotten by him (the said George Clendaniel) to them and thier hiers forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Jehu Clendaniel, all the lands I have bequeathed to my wife, Gemima Clendaniel, after the death of my dear wife, Gemima Clendaniel, to him and his hiers forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my granddaughter, Sally Townsend, wife of David Townsend, the sum of fourty dollars good and lawful to be given to her by my executors, within ine year after my death to her and her hiers forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my grandson, William Stapleford, the sum of forty dollars good and lawful to be paid him within one year after my death to him and his hiers forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my grandson, Nathanial Staplford, the sum of forty dollars good and lawfull money of the state of Delaware to be paid him within one year after my death to him and his hiers forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Elizabeth Pierce, wife of John Pierce, the sum of forty dollars, good and lawfull money of the state of Delaware to be paid her within one year after my death to her and her hiers forever. It is my will that the said John Pierce shall have no control over the the said money I have bequeathed to his wife, Elizabeth Pierce. Item: I give and bequeath to my two grandsons namely Jehu Clendaniel and Samuel H Clendaniel and my granddaughter Sarah Catherine Clendaniel, the sum of 1 dollar each and no more of my estate to be paid them by executors by one year after my death to them and thier hiers forever. Item:I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Harlan Clendaniel, son of Benjamin Clendaniel, deceasedds, my two gransons John Clendaniel and Benjamin Clendaniel and my Granddaughter Sallie Clendaniel, that the last three named are children of my son George Clendaniel, all the residue of my estate after my just debts are paid to be equally divided between them, share and share alike to them and thier hiers forever. Item: I leave my Negro girl named mariann, to be slave for and during her natural life Item: I leave my Negro girl Uninty Ann to be a slave for and during her natural life Item: I leave my Negro girl Hester Ann to be free at the age of twenty years and to serve no longer. Item: I leave my Negro boy named Peter to be free at the age of twenty one years and to serve no longer.
