Clarke of east Florida of the first part and Duncan L. Clinch, Colonel of the United States Army, on the other part, Witnesseth, That the said George J.F. Clarke for and in consideration of the sum of One thousand three hundred and twenty six Dollars to him in hand paid, at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby Acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Duncan L. Clinch, Two thousand Acres of Land being and lying in that part of East Florida called Alachua and situated at a place called Cedar Swamp Alias Sugar Town, on a path or road leading from Paynes Town to Ocklewaha Creek, Which said two thousand Acres of Land is part of a purchase the said Clarke made from John Brevard who obtained the same by grant from the late Spanish Government of said province as will appear by the Plot and Certificate of the Survey thereof , by the then Surveyor General and hereunto annexed To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land unto him the said Clinch his heirs and Assigns, together with all and Singular the rights, members, and Appurtenances to the same in any manner belonging, to his and their proper use and behoof forever in fee simple ___ ___ And the said Clarke for himself his heirs executors and Administrators, the said bargained premises unto the said Clinch his heirs and Assigns will Warrant and forever defend the rights and title thereof against himself and themselves and Against the claim of any other person or persons whatever ___ __ In Witness Whereof the said Clarke hath hereunto set his hand and seal, the day and year above written ___ ___ Signed sealed and delivered in presence of George J.F. State of Connecticut County of Newlondon On this twenty fourth day of July AD 1841 before me Samuel Church, Judge of the Superior Court of the said State of Connecticut personally appeared Belton A. Copp of Groton in the State and County Aforesaid, to me personally known and having by me been duly Sworn According to Law, On his Oath doth solemnly swear that he was one of the subscribing Witnesses to the foregoing Deed of conveyance that his name above as such subscribed is in his own proper hand Writing, and that on the day of the date of said Deed, he saw the aforesaid Grantor George J.F. Clarke sign Seal and execute the foregoing Deed freely and Voluntarily for the uses and purposes therein mentioned, and that the Signature of the said George J.F. Clarke and seal thereto affixed on the proper hand writing thereof the said Grantor, and that the said Copp together with John H. McIntosh in the presence of a said Grantor did at the time Aforesaid subscribe their names as subscribing Witnesses as is above Written __ Samuel Church Judge of the Superior Court Belton A. Copp State of Connecticut County of New London I James Stedman Clerk of the Superior Court and of the Supreme Court of Errors of the State of Connecticut in and for the County of New London said State, Do Certify and make known to all to whom these presents shall come_ That Samuel Church whose name is subscribed to the Certificate of the Affidavit of Belton A. Copp on the foregoing Instrument, is and on the twenty fourth day of July AD 1841 was a Judge of said Superior Court and said Supreme Court of errors of said State of Connecticut and that the said Signature of the name of Samuel Church is the Genuine Signature of the said Samuel Church in his own proper hand writing In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed the Seal of said Superior Court this second day of August 1841 James Stedman ___ Translation Don George Clarke Captain of the Northern Division of East Florida, and Surveyor General of said Province by Commission of Government ___ I Certify that I have Surveyed and bounded to John Brevard, two thousand Acres of land at Cedar Swamp to the West of St. Johns River, and place called Sugar Town, in part of a larger quantity granted him by Government as the portion Appertaining to a Saw Mill, which conforms with the following Plot and Its duplicate I retain among the Surveys under my Charge ___ Northern Division Fourth of October Eighteen hundred and nineteen (Plot goes Here http://www.rootsweb.com/~flgilchr/clarkeplt.htm) Date of the Grant to John Brevard, 24th of August 1819 Translated by me George I.F.
