All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/fl/flfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jim Powell, http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00030.html#0007445 April 1999 "Transcribed by Jim Powell Jr from Records provided by Buddy Irby, Alachua County Clerk of the Court's Office" Page 295-296 Territory of Florida Duval County This Indenture made this fourth day of April in the year of our Lord, Eighteen Hundred & thirty nine, Between George Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart his wife formerly Elizabeth Fernandez on the one part and Thomas Ledwith on the other part, all of the above written Territory Witnesseth, That the said George Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart his wife parties of the first part, For and in consideration of the sum of One thousand Dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand paid, at and before the Sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby Acknowledged, hath granted, bargained & sold & by these presents do grant bargain Sell and confirm unto the said Thomas Ledwith party of the second part, Two thousand two hundred and fifty Acres of Land, lying in the part of said Territory known as East Florida and situated as follows, Seven hundred and fifty Acres on the west side of the River St. Johns above Bernards Ferry and at the place where the road called Sanfiloney crosses the said river, Seven hundred and fifty Acres on Moody Hammock on the south east of Paynes Town and on the road from said Town to the Ocklewaha River and the balance Seven hundred and fifty Acres on Cooleys Hammock on the North East side of the road called Rays Trail running from the Natural Bridge of the Santaffee River to the Town in the County of Alachua Called Hogtown And the said Two Thousand Two Hundred & fifty Acres being the said George Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart his Wife part of Sixteen thousand Acre grant made to Domingo Fernandez by the late Spanish Government, on the sixteenth day of November A.D. Eighteen Hundred and Seventeen For services and losses & to which they are one fourth heirs ___ To have and to hold the said two thousand two hundred & fifty Acres unto the said Thomas Ledwith his heirs and Successors together with all and Singular the rights to members and Appurtenances to the same in any manner belonging to his and their proper purpose and behoof forever And the said George Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart his Wife, for themselves their heirs Executors Administrators and assigns, the said bargained premises unto the said Thomas Ledwith his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns, will Warrant and forever defend the right & Title thereof, against himself and themselves, But not against the claim or claims of any other person or persons whatever __ This being Altogether a Quit Claim Sale. For Testimony whereof the said George Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart his Wife have hereunto Set their hands & Seals the day and year aforemention __ Signed Sealed and delivered George Stewart (seal) in presence of __ E. Gregory Stephen Eddy Justice of the Peace Duval County Be it known that before me Stephen Eddy a justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid, On the first day of June A.D. 1839 personally Appeared, Elizabeth Stewart, Wife of George Stewart, who is a party to the foregoing Conveyance, And the said Elizabeth Stewart being examined by me separately and apart from her said Husband, did Acknowledge and declare that she Executed the said foregoing Deed for the purposes therein Appearing freely and without any fear of her said husband Witness my hand & Seal E.
