That she was legally married to said soldier prior to the first day of January, 1885, at Bradford County, in the State of Florida; that she has been a bona fide resident of the State of Florida continuously since the first day of January, A. D. 1890; that she does not own property, real and personal, to the value of $800 in this or any other State, and is not otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood, and has no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood; and that she has not purposely disposed of any property for the purpose of availing herself of the provisions of this act. On information filed before the Justice of the Peace of the proper district by any person whomsoever, stating that certain persons have made no adequate provisions for their father and mother, or either of them, the Justice shall cause a summons to be issued to said parties, and evidence to be taken as to the truth of the facts stated in the information, and if the same shall be found true, after a fair trial in which the defendants shall have the right to be heard by counsel, the Justice shall issue an order making an assessment on the said children for such amount as shall be necessary for the support of their parents. 2079. State of Florida} Alachua County} On this 5th day of September, 1899, personally appeared before me, Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for said county and State, Leonard Varnadore who being by me duly sworn, declares he is the identical person who enlisted on or about the 1st day of March, 1862, in Captain D. Vanlandingham’s Company, and afterwards transferred to W. E. Chambers Company, 2nd Fla Cavalry, county of Alachua, in the State of Florida, and that while in actual service in said company “C” 2nd Regiment Cavalry of the State of Florida, and in line of duty as such soldier at Camp Finigan, State of Florida, on or about the ……day of ………, 1862, I (here state fully and clearly all the facts showing the injury, its character and especially the extent of the injury and disability resulting therefrom.) was taken with the measles and mumps and although I staid (sic) [some] with [time] my company for some time my health continued to grow worse and was sent to the hospital at Lake City and was discharged from the service some time in 1863 or 1864. This sickness brought on Neuralgia and that brought on blindness. And that as the direct result of said injuries thus received in line of duty during the war, I am now unable to gain a livelihood by manual labor; that I have continuously since January 1st, 1880, been a citizen of Florida; that neither I, nor my wife, nor both combined, own real and personal property to the value of $600 in this or any other State, and have not purposely disposed of our property for the purpose of availing ourselves of the provisions of the pension laws of Florida; that I am not otherwise enabled, or in a position to earn, and I have no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood, and that I have no children or other relation able so to do, and whose legal duty it is to support me, and that I never deserted the Confederate service, and that I receive a pension from no other source. Chambers Company C, 2nd Florida Cavalry of Alachua County, State of Florida and that while serving as a Private in Cavalry Company, 2nd Florida regiment, Finnegan’s Brigade, and in the line of his duty at Camp Finnegan in the State of Florida, on or about the 1st day of …….., 1862, I (Here state name or nature of disease, or location of the wound or injury. If disabled by disease, state fully its causes; if by wound or injury, the precise manner in which received, and especially the extent of the disability resulting therefrom.) contracted mumps and measles from which I have never fully recovered……. And that as the result of said injuries I am now unable to earn a livelihood; that I am a citizen of said County and State, and have been a bona fide citizen of the State of Florida continuously since January 1st, 1880; that neither I nor my wife owns property to the value of fifteen hundred dollars in this or any other State, and that I am not “otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood;” that I am not receiving a pension from the United States, or any other State; that I never deserted the Confederate service, and make this declaration for the purpose of being placed upon the invalid pension roll of the State of Florida, as provided by Act of the Legislature, approved June 8, 1889, as amended June 2, 1893 and June 15, 1897. Bird and James Bartlett Sworn to before and signed in the presence of the County Judge of Dooly County, State of Georgia. And on July 11th 1896 I did receive a card from Davis Lang stating that my application had been received and the proof was all right and that my application would be taken up and considered and I have never heard of it since.
