He served in the civil war as a confederate soldier, but I do not know in what capacity, in what company nor under whom he served. He possibly was born somewhere in Georgia, but lived a great part of his live in Alachua and Levy Counties, Florida. He was married first to Adaline Lane and secondly to Nancy Curry (Lee). As this was my grandfather, my maiden name being Clora Belle Watson, I thank you for any information you have about him. Cordially, Clora B. Simpson (Mrs.) Clora B. Green, Comptroller of the State of Florida, for attention and reply. I am enclosing herewith a “Report on search of carded records of Military Service” of the National Archives and records service, Washington 25, D. C., and they have the record of Samuel N. Watson and will send you a photocopy of his service record in Company C, 7th Florida Infantry, Confederate States Army, for $2.00. Just send the money and return this report to them direct, and they will send the photocopy to you. In the meantime I am sending your letter back to Mr. Green and in the event they have a record of his service there, you will receive a copy, but unless Mr. Watson received a Confederate pension the Comptroller’s office would not have a complete record of Mr. Watson’s service record. I had written Miss Bowen requesting information on SAMUEL NEWTON WATSON who served approximately four years in the Confederate Army. In her letter, reaching me via you, she stated she was enclosing a “Report on search of carded records of Military Service” of the National Archives and records service, Washington 25, D. C. But to my sad, sad regret, there was no enclosure in the letter forwarded by you. It is important that I have enclosure to fill out and return, with $2.00, to Washington 25, D. C. to receive photocopy of military service. Also, she states if Mr. Watson received a Confederate pension, the Comptroller’s office should have a service record on him in Tallahassee. Miss Bowen found that he served in Company C. 7th Florida Infantry, Confederate States Army. My father states he did receive a pension. It will be greatly appreciated if you would check into your records of pensions and let me know your findings. He was born 25 October 1831, wife’ name Nancy C. Watson. You no doubt have records on Nancy C. Watson’s also receiving pension after death of husband, which I would like very much to have. Cordially, Clora B. Simpson (Mrs.) Clora B.
