M. Akins who enlisted 6 day of May 1864 in Captain Francis Olmstead Company, I 6th Regiment of the State of Georgia and who was on the ____ day of April, 1865, at ____ in the State of ____killed in battle or honorably discharged from said service, and died on the 2nd day of Dec., 1900 at his home in Alachua County. That she was legally married to said soldier prior to the first day of January, 1885, at Berrien Co. in the State of Georgia; that she has been a bona fide resident of the State of Florida continuously, since the first day of January, A. D. 1890; that she does not own property, real and personal, to the value of $800 in this or any other State, and is not otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood, and has no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood; and that she has not purposely disposed of any property for the purpose of availing herself of the provisions of this act. One Thousand Nine Hundred and nine, personally appeared before me, a notary public in and for the County and State aforesaid Harriett Akins a resident of Bell County of Alachua State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of Chapter 5885, Laws of Florida, approved June 7, 1909. That she is the widow of Francis M. Akins who was enlisted under the name of Francis M. Akins on the 6 day of May, 1864, in Company I 6th Regiment of the State of Georgia and who was honorably discharged at end of service in 1865, on account of General surrender of Confederate Armies. That she was lawfully married to the said Francis M. Akins under the name of Harriett Jones in the County of Berrien, State of Georgia on the 8 day of January, 1868, and that she was not divorced from him and that she has not remarried since his death, which occurred on the 2nd day of Dec., 1900, in the County of Alachua State of Florida. That she is a resident of Alachua County, Florida, and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the 1 day of January 1874. That she does not own property, including real estate, personal property, mortgages or other collateral securities, stocks or bonds in this or any other State to exceed in value the sum of Five Thousand Dollars. M. Akin (name not found as Francis M. Akin), corporal, Captain Olmstead's Company F, 1st Georgia Reserves Infantry, Confederate States Army, was enlisted April 26, 1864. He was transferred to Company H, same regiment and is reported on the roll of the company for September and October, 1864, last on which borne, as a sergeant, present. Adkins, deceased Confederate Veteran Certificate No. 11485 Dear Mrs. Owens: In conformity with your request I am enclosing photostatic copies of Widow's Pension Claim awarded to Mrs. Harriett Akins, widow of Francis M. Akins, deceased Confederate Veteran. Mr. Akins did not receive a pension from the State of Florida but it was on the basis of his Confederate military service that the pension was given to Mrs. Harriett Akins, same being approved under date of December 28, 1903 with pay from November 7, 1903 at the rate of $96 per annum. In addition to the formal application filed by the widow, the service of this veteran was further supported by a transcript from the War Department, The Adjutant General's Office, Washington, D. C. and is also a part of the attached file. This will certify that the original records from which these photostatic copies were obtained are on file in the Comptroller's Office. Very truly yours, W.
