Beach aged sixty two years, who being by me duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by Act of the Legislature, approved June 6, 1903, for indigent widows of deceased Confederate soldiers and sailors: That she is the lawful widow of John L. Beach who enlisted ____ day of ____ 186_ in Captain ____ Company, 2d Regiment of the State of Florida and who was on the ____ day of ____, 186_, at ____ in the state of ____ killed in battle or honorably discharged from said service, and died on the 16th day of July 1904 at High Springs Alachua County. That she was legally married to said soldier prior to the first day of January, 1885, at ? Creek in the State of Florida; that she has been a bona fide resident of the State of Florida continuously, since the first day of January, A. D. 1890; that she does not own property, real and personal, to the value of $800 in this or any other State, and is not otherwise enabled or in a position to earn a livelihood, and has no income from any source sufficient for a livelihood; and that she has not purposely disposed of any property for the purpose of availing herself of the provisions of this act. Dear Sir: The widow of John Beach has complained to me that she has not received her pension. I saw Col. J. B. D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and nine, personally appeared before me, a Justice of Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid Ann C. Beach a resident of Hague County of Alachua State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of Chapter 5885, Laws of Florida, approved June 7, 1909. That she is the widow of John L. Beach who was enlisted under the name of John L. Beach, on the 17 day of May, 1862, in Company F 2d Cavalry Regiment of the State of Florida and who was honorably discharged at May 5, Fort White, 1865, on account of end of war. That she was lawfully married to the said John L. Beach under the name of Ann Catherine Osteen in the County of Alachua, State of Florida on the 15 day of Nov., 1858, and that she was not divorced from him and that she has not remarried since his death, which occurred on the 16 day of July, 1904, in the County of Alachua State of Florida. That she is a resident of Alachua County, Florida, and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the 27 day of December 1841. That she does not own property, including real estate, personal property, mortgages or other collateral securities, stocks or bonds in this or any other State to exceed in value the sum of Five Thousand Dollars. Beach, private, Company F, 2d Florida Cavalry, Confederate States Army, enlisted May 17, 1862. His name is borne on company roll for May and June, 1864, last on file "Dismounted," but his presence or absence is not stated thereon. No later record of him has been found. F. C. Croom I no that if it takes a man that went through heard [sic] ships and stood in the front of the Battle to deserve a pension I most assuredly do my was record is as good I recon [sic] as any mans record in the confederate war. I never have drew no pension only 18 month while others that was not in the war have been drawing the longest the widdow [sic] of J. L. Beach of Trenton, Fla. the widow of D. C. Beach of Newberry and William Beach of Obrian were deserters from the start and camped in the swamp here near my place and known as the deserters swamp until today for further information along this line interogat [sic] Wiley and Isaac Hines of Willeford and Lewis Ransey of Bell Fla as was ours for a square deal. Dear Sir: Sometime last month I write you regarding the pention [sic] of Mrs. J. L. Beach the widow of J. L. Beach who served in the Confederacy in Capt. Rou's Company F 2 Fla. Cav. which company I was 2nd Lieutenant. His papers were approved of, "as I understand it" by the county commissioners but has not heard one word from them.
