H. Bennett who being by me duly sworn, declares he is the identical person who enlisted on or about the first day of June 1862 in Captain S. C. Vanlandingham's Company, county of Alachua, in the State of Florida and was honorably discharged at the expiration of his service on the 26th day of April 1865 in ____ county, State of North Carolina. I do solemnly swear that I have not purposely disposed of any property for the purpose of availing myself of the provisions of the pension laws of Florida, and that I never deserted the Confederate service, and that I receive no pension from any other source. D. 1885, and have continuously resided in this State since that date; and I and my wife, combined do not own property, real or personal, or real and personal, to the value of eight hundred dollars ($800), and that I am by reason of age incapable of providing a living by manual labor for myself. Bennett the above applicant for pension during the Civil War of 1861 to 1865, that we served with him in D Company 7th Florida Regiment, and knew of our own knowledge that he is now past the age of 65 years as set forth in the above application and that the disability therefrom claimed to exist, does exist, and that he never deserted the Confederate Army. D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and nine personally appeared before me, a Clerk Circuit Court in and for the county and State aforesaid, Ludy H. Bennett who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is 75 years of age, having been born on the 14 day of March, 1834, in the county of Lancaster, in the State of South Carolina. That he is a bona fide citizen of the county of Alachua, State of Florida. That he has resided in the State of Florida continuously since the 27th day of January, 1858. That he is the identical person who enlisted at Gainesville, Fla., under the name of Ludy H. Bennett, on the ____ day of June 1862, in Company D, Regiment 7th of the State of Florida in the service of the Confederate States Army and who was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Greensboro, N. C., in the State of N. C., on the ____ day of April, 1865, on account of close of war. That I served faithfully until HONORABLY DISCHARGED from the service of the Confederate States in the year of 1865, and did not desert the service of the Confederate States nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States until after the surrender of the Confederate Armies. (Here state whereabouts at close of Civil War.) That I was at Greensboro, N. C. with Gen'l. Johnson just after the battle of Bentonville. That I do now own property, including real restate, personal property, stocks, bonds, mortgages or other collateral securities of any kind in this or any other State, nor does my wife own with me jointly or separately, property to exceed in value the sum of five thousand dollars. Bennett Pensioner No. 1835 of the State of Florida under the laws of Florida do hereby make application to the State Board of Pensions for an increase in pension allowed me at the rate of $120.00 per annum. I am unable on account of the disabilities shown below and by attached affidavit of a reputable physician, to earn a livelihood by manual labor. (Here state fully and plainly the disability from which the applicant for increase is suffering, state any loss of limbs or eyesight and give age. Please avoid the use of technical terms.) Bennett the applicant named in the foregoing application for a pension. This deponent further says that he has carefully examined the said applicant's physical condition and finds: (Here state nature, character and extent of wounds, disease or disability. Please avoid technical terms.) Senility - Mr. L. H. Bennett was borne in 1834 and is now incapacitated from the hard labor incident to farming that he has been forced to give it up and as farming has been his occupation for life - he can not now earn a sufficient income upon which to live. This deponent further says that the said Ludy H. Bennett is permanently & totally disabled by reason of such senility or old age from earning a livelihood for himself by manual labor. J. F. His record of service as given on the form is as follows: said to have served as a Private, Co. "A" 7th Florida Inf., C.S.A. His enlistment and discharge dates are not shown. Dear Mr. Held: This will acknowledge your letter of August 29, 1963, requesting Confederate Military Service Record of the above subject captioned individual. On reference to our Confederate Files I find that a soldier by the name of L. H. Bennett was awarded a State Pension for Confederate Military Service under Certificate #5311, and is indicated to have served in the 7th Florida Regiment and coincides with the information given in your letter. Photostatic copy of this Soldier's Application for Pension indicates that he enlisted under date of June 1, 1862, and was honorably discharged April 26, 1965, in the State of North Carolina.
