Watkins, Micanopy, Fla. Dear Doctor: I should have written you relative to the pension claim of Mr. Jno. J. Barr sooner, but was only in the office a half day on my return here, and, therefore, have not had opportunity to write you until now. It appears from the records in this case that Mr. Barr was a private in Co. A Battalion, State Cadets of South Carolina, which Company we have not been able to identify as a part of the Confederate Army. Therefore, his status, so far as we can find out, is on a footing of a home guard of another State, which is not covered by our Statute. This is the reason his application was disallowed by the Pension Board recently and not because of the question of property qualification. If Mr. Barr can furnish any proof connecting his organization with the regular service, we will be glad to consider it, but so far it seems that we have exhausted every avenue that would likely throw any information upon his service. Regretting that I have been unable to find anything of benefit to him, I am, Yours very respectfully, Comptroller A/F ******************************************************************************************* Jan. 4th, 1922 Mr. John J.
