Held Chief, Headstone Branch Memorial Division Department of the Army Washington 25, D. C. Re: Cassels, William H. SPTS-MH Dear Mr. Held: This will acknowledge your letter of November 27, 1963, requesting Military Service Record of the above subject captioned individual with the C.S.A. I have searched our Pension Files and find that under Certificate #12949-A, a William H. Cassels, Sr., received a pension from the State of Florida for service with the C.S.A. This record indicates he was born October 24, 1816, in Sumter County, South Carolina, however, I do not have date of death available. The record indicates that he stated he enlisted on or about August 1, 1864, in Captain Haw's Company, Dickinson's Command Florida Regiment, and that he was discharged April 9, in Marion County, Florida, no date shown, however, it would appear that it should be 1865. While there is a discrepancy in relation to our record against yours in so far as the regiment or company is concerned, the date of both would appear to indicate that he possibly may be the veteran about whom you inquire. Very truly yours, W. C. Hoffman, Secretary State Board of Pensions WCH/vm
