Zetrower, [sic] Rochelle, Florida Dear Sir: Pension Claim #19476: I notice in your original pension claim, the proofs of service was signed by two men, only one of whom was a comrade of yours, namely, Mr. E. C. F. Sanchez; the other witness did not appear to have served with you in the same Company, and would therefore not be a competent witness under the present Laws. I am enclosing you herewith a blank on which to furnish the affidavit of another comrade. Yours very truly, Secretary ******************************************************************************************* Rochelle, Fla. Sept. 29, 1913 R. A. Gray, Esq. Sec. Dept. of Pensions, Tallahassee, Fla. (Pension Claim #19476) Dear Sir; I am in receipt of yours of 23, inst asking me to furnish the affidavit of another comrade. So far as I am able to learn it will be impossible for me to do this, for the reason that my company was made up of old men and boys. I cannot locate any of the old men, and in fact it is hardly probable that any of them are living; and of the seven boys that I remember in the company, five are to my knowing, dead, leaving only myself and Col. E. C. F. Sanchez. Please note that I made the required proof under a former act, (Chap. 5600, Acts of 1907), and that Sec. 2 of Chap. 6424, Acts of 1913, provides, "That any applicant for a pension under this act, who has previously made satisfactory proof of service, under any former act, although not now on the pension roll, shall not be required to make new proof of service." In view of the above, I see no reason why my pension should not be allowed in the regular order. Very truly yours, Daniel M.
