Rev. George S. Crosby, the brother whom so many learned to love, departed this life at Alachua, Fla., Aug. 26. He was born in Mississippi Nov. 28, 1857. Brother Crosby was licensed to preach by the Micanopy Church in the winter of 1889, while Brother L. D. Geiger was pastor. The same church, at the request of the Philippi church, called him to ordination, inviting Brothers George T. Leitner, B. R. Mosley and Fezell as a presbytery. After a most careful and thorough examination, they ordained him to the full work of the ministry. For nearly seven years he has been one of our most faithful and best pastors. At the time of his death he was pastor of four of our strongest churches— Philippi and Elim in Columbia County and Jonesville and Oak Grove in Alachua county. For several years, I have had the pleasure to be with our brother in meetings of days. His churches loved and trusted him. The one desire of his life was to honor his Master. “He studied to show himself a workman who needed not to be ashamed.” Sound in doctrine, always con??ending for the “faith once for all delivered to the saints,” yet never giving offense to those who differed from him. He was buried in the cemetery at Micanopy by the side of his sister. The writer used as his text for the occasion II Samuel ?ii 38. He was a great man; so sublime, indeed, was his child-like faith in God, his very life seemed to whisper “He leadeth me.” He was a prince, not because he could trace his lineage to some earthly potentate, but because he was a child of the King. The writer shall miss him for he was one of his truest and most trusted friends; gone, but not forgotten. He leaves, to mourn his death, one brother, J. A. Crosby, the honored clerk of the Marion Association, and three sisters, beside a host of friends. To him who “encampeth round about his peo- [line missing] must most humbly submit. George T. Leitner Florida Times Union, Sunday August 28, 1898, page 2 Gainesville Remains of Rev. George S. Crosby Carried Through to Micanopy. Gainesville, Aug. 27-The remains of Rev. George S.
