Dear Sir: Before the undersigned witnesses came Mr. George Londy Hansford, aged 76, and said and affirmed that he personally knew that Mr. Asa Ayers served in the Confederate Army, having know (sic) and seen him during the time of his service. Dear Sir:- Your letter of the 2nd, inst, advising me of the fact that the necessary proof and data to get me on the pension list received, and will state that certificates of enlistment and furloughs as well as showing from the Board of County Comissioners (sic) of this County accompanies the papers to Tallahassee and was (I suppose in conection (sic) with getting the matter before the Legiature (sic)) but if they are not forthcoming I will get them up again and send them in, but as the Board of Comissioners (sic) will not be in regular session till their regular meeting, it may be that I couldent (sic) get their statement till after it would be too late. I can get proof of service from some people in Apalachicola if necessary, but it is a considerable distance there and if you will kindly look up the former papers and advise me as to whether or not they are sufficient I will greatly appreciate it, and if not I will do all in my power to get the other proof. My way of traveling around is bad and in case the other or further proof is wanted and I should be unable to get it within the 15 days allowed, will greatly appreciate an extension of time. State Board of Pensions, Tallahassee, Fla. Gentlemen:- In Re pension claim of Mrs. Sarah F. Ayres (sic) Beg leave to call your attention to record of Florida Soldiers in the Seminole Indian- Civil and Spanish American wars, as authorized by Chapter 2203 laws of Florida, approved May 14th 1903. You will note that the name of Asa Ayres (sic), husband of Mrs. Sarah F. Ayres (sic), appears on page 228 of said record, it appears that the said Asa Ayres (sic), saw service in company F.-10th Florida, infantry under Capt. Wash W. Scott. May,24,1926, Hon Earnest Amous (sic), Tallahassee,Fla, Dear-Sir; Sarah Frances Ayers Appeared before the undersined (sic) witness and said that according to the family record she was borned (sic) in Calhoun CO,Fla,on Sept,11,1853,Was married to Asa Ayers,Aug,19,1886. He states that he is a younger brother of Asa Ayers, and that the said Asa Ayers left home for the avowed purpose of joining the Confederate Army, and that he returned home on a ten day furlough in a Confederate uniform. T. Traylor, who is himself a Confederate Veteran 80 years of age, appeared before the undersigned witnesses and stated and affirmed that he personally knew that Mr. Asa Ayers served in the Confederate Army; that he saw him and talked with him while Mr. Ayers was actively engaged in the service of the Confederate Army and stationed in a Confederate Army Camp about three miles west of Marianna, Florida. Dear Sir: Referring to your letter of recent date in regard to pension for your mother, Mrs. Sarah F. Ayres (sic), I beg to advise that I requested transcript of your father’s war service from the Adjutant General, Washington, D. C. and beg to quote herewith reply: ****No Record of Asa Ayers, Company F, 10th Florida C.S.A. William A. Ayers Co. F, 10th Florida Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted April 10th, 1863, Alum Bluff. Name last appears on roll March and April 1863, present. Name appears on register of claims deceased soldiers. Claim filed by Ailliam (sic) Ayers Father November 16, 1863, stating soldier died Calhoun County, Florida. Nothing additional. (Signed) R. C. Davis, The Adjutant General”. Kindly advise if your father died while in service and if this is a record of his service. If so, this will be sufficient proof of war service. If this should not refer to your father, then it will be necessary for proof to be furnished by comrades or a commissioned officer serving in the same command with him.
