The exact year is not known, for the original church register was destroyed by a fire in the 1890's. A list of the early members found in the 1947 register, puts the church founding at 1823. May 13, 1847 John Scheufler deeded two acres of land on which to build a church. The Chapel was completed by 1852, and has remained in constant use since the first Sunday worship. Although, a cemetery was not mentioned in the original deed; The cemetery has many unknown graves that are outlined with brick. Some have thin headstones with no name, and others have white crosses simply marked, unknown. To date, new gravesites of the unknown are being discovered. The earliest grave with a marker, being 1860. It wasn't until the late 1960's that the cemetery name was changed to Middleburg Methodist Cemetery. (info: History of the Middleburg United Methodist Church, revised edition) Located in the Historical District of Middleburg, 3925 Main Street, off of Blanding Blvd.(St Rd 21) south of Orange Park. Latitude: 300402N Longitude: 0815142W This is a work in progress project for me, it will take sometime to visit each gravesite. I am willing to provide photos of headstones to interested family descendents only. Send me an e-mail with name, and dates if possible. In subject area, please put Headstone Photo Request. Thank you.
