Jones was 63 years of age, a native of Jasper, Georgia. He moved to Naples in 1923. In his death, Naples loses one of it's most colorful figures. When Naples was incorporated in 1924, he was appointed it's first city Marshal. The jail was then in the "PawPaw Patch", located in the area between Crayton Cove and the Old Naples Hotel. A quiet man, Jones kept peace in Naples with only a two man force. When the office of Police Chief was created, he was appointed as it's first Chief and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1958, a period of nearly 31 years. Besides his wife, Mrs. Alice Jones, he is survived by two sons, Cale Jones of Naples, and Charles Edward Jones, a sergeant on the Naples Police Department. Two brothers, Stephen Allison and Jesse Floyd, both of Naples; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Roland of Grant City, Alabama, and six grandchildren. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Naples, The Elks, and The National and International Association of Police Chiefs. Friends may call at the Richard A. Pittman Funeral Home from 2 to 5 o'clock Thursday, and from 7 to 9 Thursday night. Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Chapel of the Pittman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Naples Memorial Gardens. ----STATEMENT OF PERMISSION---- Subj: FW: Obtaining obit information Date: 11/14/00 3:18:22 PM Eastern Standard Time From: pplewis@naplesnews.com (Lewis, Phil) To: moneil5217@aol.com You may post either obit.
