Samuel Acree Charnie Garrett, Sr. Charnie Garrett, Jr. These men were probably in Indian War or Civil War. Yours truly Mrs. Maude C. Anderson ******************************************************************************************* November 17, 1958 Mrs. Maude C. Anderson 422 Fort Meade, Florida Dear Mrs. Anderson: With reference to your letter of November 8th, wish to advise that the records of this Department of the Comptroller's office fail to reveal the name of Charnie Garrett, Jr., or Charnie Garrett, Sr., on the Confederate rolls. We do not find where a Samuel Acree drew a Confederate Pension but his wife Martha Acree, whom he marred in Madison County, Florida, around June 6th, 1845, did draw a pension under Certificate No. 11277. She was formally Martha Williams. Mrs. Acree stated on her application that Samuel Acree enlisted in Captain John Bryant's Company, a First Regiment of the State of Florida and he died from Brights Disease of the Kidney, contracted while in service. Our Microfilm records from Washington also show that a Samuel Acree was of Company D, 1st Reserve Florida Infantry, Private - 2 Lieutenant. We do not certify that the Samuel Acree you are seeking and the one above are the same. Very truly yours Ray E. Green, Comptroller By W. C. Church Street Bartow, Florida Re: Samuel Acree Confederate Veteran Pension #11277 A Dear Mrs. Brooks: As requested in your letter of July 16, I am enclosing in duplicate, photostatic copies of the above captioned Confederate Veteran Widow, which indicates this veteran's military service and on which her pension was approved, being predicated on his service. It would appear that the veteran himself did not apply or receive a pension from the state of Florida. In regard to your request for the military records of the various veteran's with the name Smith, I find that it is impossible to furnish you with the information, or determine or indentify the veteran on the information given me by you. This is due to the fact that their are great numbers of Smith's with the same given names on the records as those requested by you. If it is possible for you to furnish me with some information as to the military units in which they served, this will perhaps make it possible for indentification. As you know the military record of the Confederate are very incomplete, this being due to the fact that in many instances the records were destroyed by the commanding officer at the time of surrender. We will do the best we can with further information. For your information I have just received a request and furnished information to Mrs. Alyene Hays, Box 422, Fort Meade, Florida, on the service record of Samuel Acree. Very truly yours, Secretary, State Board of Pensions WCH/vmc Encl. ******************************************************************************************* August 13, 1959 Mrs. Alyene Hays P. O. Box 422 Fort Meade, Florida Re: Samuel Acree Confederate Veteran Pension #11277 A Dear Mrs. Hays: As requested in your letter of July 17, I am enclosing photostatic copies of this veteran's record as set forth in his widow's application for pension, on which service records he was awarded Confederate Widow's Pension under the date of September 22, 1900 with pay from September 30, 1899 at the rate of $60.00 per annum, and under date of September 9, 1909 she was continued on the roll at the rate of $120.00 per annum with pay effective as of July 1, 1909. It appears that the veteran himself never applied or received a pension from the state of Florida. In reference to the other persons listed in your request under the names of Baker I have not been able to indentify [sic] these from the information furnished by you; with the exception of one and I am not positive if this particular one is the one to which you refer. The one listed on your request is John Baker and on my records I find one veteran listed as John F. Baker from Columbia County and John F. Baker from Sumter County. It may be possible if you can furnish me the names of the wives of the John Baker in whom you are interested, this veteran may be indentified. [sic] For your information I have also received a request for Mrs. Ruby Brooks, 315 E. Church Street, Bartow, Florida, for the service record of Samuel Acree. Very truly yours, Secretary, State Board of Pensions WCH/vmc
