From the juncton of County Road 351 and US19 in Cross City, Dixie County, Florida, go southeast approximately 4 miles on US19. The Long Pond Cemetery is on the south (or west) side of US19. There is a sign on the side of the road that is easily visible. The small dirt lane that leads to the cemetery is marked with a county road sign that says Kiffin Lane. Google Earth shows this road as Lakeview Lane. Go about 100 yards SW on this lane. The cemetery is on the NW side of the road. This cemetery is maintained sporadically by prisoners from the county sheriff's jail, but is in poor repair. There are numerous graves marked with a stake or a rock or piece of masonry. I talked to a neighbor who lives immediately south of the cemetery and he told me the cemetery in the past was much larger, but one acre of land was deeded to the county by the owner and the rest of the cemetery area went back to nature. This person told me there used to be many wooden markers, which have disappeared, many torn down by maintenance crews noted above. He told me there were lots of people buried in this cemetery in the 1917-1918 period who died of the Spanish Flu. Graves marked with metal funeral home markers are noted as these markers often do not survive for a long time. The cemetery area, family groupings, and all tombstones were recorded with a digital camera and the full set of high resolution photos plus this text file will be placed in the Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah, for public use. Original survey taken May 26 2007. Requests for photos of specific tombstones may be sent to the contributor at the e-mail address above. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Abbreviations: STW = Shares Tombstone With; TIA = Tombstone Identical and Adjacent to; GBNF = Gone but not Forgotten; RIP = Rest in Peace; M/M = Mr & Mrs, IMO = In Memory of, h/o = husband of, w/o = wife of, s/o = son of, d/o = daughter of (Surveyor's comments in Parentheses) ------------------------------------------------------------------- BADALUCCA, Ledia J 26 Dec 1934 17 Jan 2006 (Metal Funeral Home Marker - Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, FL) BARROW, James Wyatt 16 Sept 2006 (only one date) Infant Little ones to him belong CARTER, Junior "Bud" 22 Feb 1925 19 Dec 1994 (TIA Mary L Carter) CARTER, Mary L 5 Feb 1928 27 Apr 1999 Sister (TIA Junior "Bud") CORBIN, James W 1912 PVT Co H 1 FLA CAV CSA (No year of birth on stone) DAM--TO, ---- died Jun 25 196?
