R. Hewitt of Branford P. O. County of Lafayette, State of Florida who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical person who enlisted at Troy in the State of Florida on the ____ day of 1865, in Louis Mosely's Co. Home Guard of Florida, which organization was regularly mustered into the service of the Confederate States of America; that he knows of his own personal knowledge that Geo. W. Fletcher enlisted in Louis Mosely's Co. Home Guard of the State of Florida, at Troy, in the State of Florida on the date not remembered, 1865, that he served faithfully in the said organization until the close of war, 1865, when he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED on account of close of war, at Troy in the State of Florida, and did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. I know personally of the above stated service, because I served with Geo. W. Fletcher in Louis Mosely's Co. Home Guard of the State of Florida, and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at Troy, in the State of Florida, on the ____ day of ____, 1865, by reason of close of war and I did not desert the Confederate States service nor take the oath of allegiance to the United States before the close of the War. Fletcher, Fletcher, Fla. ******************************************************************************* September 29, 1958 Mrs. T. A. Morse 820 Governors Drive Tallahassee, Fla. Re: George W. Fletcher Confederate Veteran Dear Mrs. Morse: With reference to our conversation this morning relative to the service of George W. Fletcher, Confederate Veteran, I am enclosing a part of the application filed by him on Sept. 6, 1907, and approved by the State Board of Pensions on Dec. 28, 1907. The records show that Mr. Fletcher was born on November 30, 1841, in Irvin County, Georgia; that he enlisted in April of 1861 at Quincy, Fla., in Company "A", 4th Florida Regiment, Confederate States Army and served until the close of the war. He was wounded 4 times. The records also show that he was married to Eliza Edwards in Gadsden County, Fla., on May 8, 1902, and that he died on Dec. 6, 1924. Photocopy of his discharge is enclosed herewith along with that portion of his application relating to his service and proof in the form of affidavits of comrades serving with him.
