B. Howard, of Dixie County, Florida. In The House Read 1st Time 4/19, 1927 By Mr. McKinney Of Dixie County AN ACT Granting a Pension to Mrs. J. B. Howard, of Dixie County, Florida. Whereas, Mrs. J. B. Howard is now a bona fide resident of the State of Florida, and has been for several years past; and, Whereas, she is the lawful widow of J. B. Howard, who rendered long and faithful service to the cause of the South by enlisting in Company C, First Calvary Regiment, South Carolina, and served with this command until Spring of 1864, when he was given a medical discharge, but recovered again and returned to his command, and was captured by the enemy, was released at Point Lookout, Maryland, August, 1865; and, Whereas, Mrs. J. B. Howard is now seventy-seven years of age, with no means of support other than that given to her; and, Whereas, the said Mrs. J. B. Howard is entitled to a pension; therefore, BE IT ENACTED by the Legislature of the State of Florida: Section 1. That the State Pension Board be, and they are hereby empowered and directed to place the name of Mrs. J. B. Howard, of Cross City, Dixie County, Florida, upon the pension rolls of this State, to be paid in the same manner and at the same rate that other pensioners of this State are paid. Sec. 2. All laws or parts of laws in conflict with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed. Sec. 3. This Act shall take effect immediately upon its becoming a law. S. C. Vol., Confederate States Army. Please furnish me with the record of this solider. June 22nd, 1927 Respectfully returned to Department of Pensions State of Florida Tallahassee, Fla. The records show that one J. B. Howard, Private Company C, 1 South Carolina Cavalry, Confederate States Army, enlisted August 27, 1861 at Hamburg, at the age of 20; transferred to Company K, 1 Battalion S. C. Cav. June 27, 1862, and on muster roll for November and December 1862, (last on which borne) he is shown present, a Corporal. He was discharged January 15, 1863.
