D. One Thousand Nine Hundred and twenty-eight personally appeared before me a notary public in and for the County and State aforesaid Catherine Ward a resident of Dixie County of State of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the provisions of the General Pension Laws of Florida. That she is the lawful widow of William F. Ward who enlisted under the name of William F. Ward on the ____ day of June, 1864, in Company J. J. Johnson's Home Guard of the State of Fla. and who was honorably discharged at Jasper, Fla., April, 1865, on account of the close of the war. For reference to application for Pension filed by husband. Refer to No. 22501 filed in Comptroller's Office Oct. 5, 1923. That she was lawfully married to the said William F. Ward under the name of Catherine Bullard in the County of Hamilton State of Florida on the 21st day of September 1873, and that she was not divorced from him before nor has she remarried since his death, which occurred on the 14th day of March, 1925, in the County of Dixie, State of Florida. That she is a resident of Dixie County, Florida, and has continuously resided in the State of Florida since the 15th day of January 1903. That she was not heretofore granted a pension from the State of Florida under Certificate No. 22501. That she is not a pensioner of any other State. Matthis Notary Public ******************************************************************************* Report of County Commissioners We, the undersigned, County Commissioners in and for the County of Dixie, Florida, do hereby report that at a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners held this day, the foregoing application of Mrs. Catherine Ward for a pension under the Laws of Florida, was investigated by us; that we are satisfied that the applicant has been a bona fide citizen of the State of Florida for eight years just preceding the date of this application, and that the representations made in the petition and affidavits are true, and that a pension should be granted the applicant. Dear Sir A personal to you Mr. Marten. When Mr. Hardy was Governor my father Wm. F. Ward applied for a pention [sic] on the home gard [sic] claim and made his proof by too [sic] witenesses [sic] that was in the company with him. Wich [sic] you understand these home gards [sic] companys [sic] was made up of old men and boys that was not military age so the proof was made by two boys that was not military age at the time of surves [sic]. Our representive Mr. T. A. Fletcher put this claim before the house and it passed as a special act and Mr. Hardy and Mr. ? lade [sic] it aside so my father past away. Then we sent the identification of my mother last term by Mr. T. A. Fletcher again and Mr. Fletcher said the papers was all filed thair [sic] in the clerk's office. Mr. Marten my mother is now totle [sic] helpless and very needy as we are all very poor. Will you pleas [sic] look up the papers and see if you can give my mother some help. I am cincearly [sic] yours in prair [sic]. L. F. Ward ******************************************************************************* April 20th, 1928 Mr. L. F. Ward Fletcher, Fla. Dear Sir: Your letter of the 15th, addressed to Governor Martin has been referred to me with the request that I write you in connection with pension of Mrs. Ward. I am enclosing herewith blank so that she may make application for widow's pension under the present law. She should appear before an officer and execute the enclosed blank, furnishing proof of her marriage, proof of the death of her husband and the approval of the County Commissioners. She should also furnish an additional affidavit of a comrade serving with her husband if possible. I have made reference to her husband's pension number so that she may receive the benefits of the proof of service filed with his claim. He never received a pension owing to the fact that the proof of service did not come within the provisions of the law. I am also enclosing herewith Certificate of the Secretary of the Pension Board, which should be preserved as it is your evidence that you have been granted a pension. Filed In Pension Department May 4, 1928 Approved And Filed In Comptroller's Office June 2nd, 1928 With pay from May 4, 1928 At the rate of $480.00 per annum Roumelle Bowen Secretary of Board ******************************************************************************* Nov. 6, 1956 Judge Guy McClain Judge, Lafayette County Mayo, Florida Dear Judge McClain: In looking over the records I find the following Confederate soldiers lived in Lafayette County at one time and thought you would probably be interested in their records. 2847 Mrs. Missouri J. Jolly, widow of Hugh J. Jolly. Mr. Jolly lived in Lafayette County when he applied for pension on Jan. 8, 1901. He stated in his claim for pension that he was born on Dec. 23, 1829, in Horry County, South Carolina; that he enlisted about June, 1861, Co. F, 26th S. C. Regt. and transferred to Co. A, 1st S. C. Regt. CSA, at Goldsboro, N. C. in April of 1865, on account of the close of the war. He was married to Missouri Sheppard in Levy County, Fla. on July 8, 1901. William F. Ward, Fletcher, Fla. Born Jan. 1, 1845, in Tennessee. He enlisted at Jasper, Fla., in Captain J. J. Johnson's Home Guard Company in June of 1864, and served until discharged at Jasper, in April of 1865, on account of the close of the War. William F. Ward and Catherine Bullard were marred in Hamilton County, Florida, in September of 1873, 21st day. W. A. Campbell of Mayo received a pension from the State of Florida in 1906. He stated in his claim for pension that he was born on March 15, 1841, in Henry County, Ala. That he enlisted on March 10, 1862, at Montgomery, Ala., in Co. E, 60th Alabama Regiment and served until the surrender. He was married to Nannie McLeod Feb 9, 1869, and he died on the 13th day of Feb. 1908, in Lafayette County.
