BROSS, JULIUS. Included among the substantial business men of Jacksonville, one who has won not only personal success but the esteem and respect of those with whom he has come in contact in either a business or social way is JULIUS BROSS, head of the watch and clock repairing firm of J. Bross & Company. An expert in his line, he has been identified with a number of the leading manufacturers of timepieces in the country, and his past experience and present ability augur well for his future success. Mr. BROSS is a native of Poland, and was born January 14, 1882. He attended the public schools of his native land, and was about fifteen years of age when he immigrated to the United States, first settling at New York City, where he made his home for some fifteen years. As a youth he began to work for S. EDMUND SZYDLOWSKI, the leading jeweler and watchmaker of New York, after leaving him he went to Orange, New Jersey, and entered the employ of the Thomas Edison Company, where for six years he was engaged in reproducing work. His next location was at Jersey City, where he worked for the Standard Watch Company, whence he went to Trenton, New Jersey, and entered the service of the Trenton Watchworks Company. When this company was sold to the Ingersoll Watch Company, Mr. BROSS went with the latter company, and when the Ingersoll concern bought out the New England Watch Company at Waterbury, Connecticut, he was sent by this concern to that city in the capacity of instructor. After one year Mr. BROSS resigned his position and came to Jacksonville, where in 1917 he founded the present business of J. Bross & Company. This concern is located in Room 2, United States Trust Building, 25 Laura Street, and Mr. BROSS has his establishment equipped with the latest appliances and machinery for the handling of the most delicate mechanism. He is fitted to repair any and all kinds of watches and clocks, and guarantees to do only first-class work. It is a motto of the company to please and satisfy its customers, so that they will call again when in need of having work done. Mr. BROSS is not only an expert in repairing watches and clocks, but also antiques of all kinds. Mr. BROSS stands high in public estimation at Jacksonville, not alone among those of his own race, but among business men generally. While he has devoted himself to his business interests to the exclusion of other matters, he takes a good citizen's interest in public affairs and civic matters, and is always willing to aid movements which promise to be of benefit to the community which he has adopted as his permanent home. He has several fraternal connections and is generally popular among his associates.
