Mr. CLARKSON is but another example of the fact that native sons are present to carry on the work of their fathers and pioneer grandfathers. He was born at Jacksonville, April 9, 1887, and is a son of WALTER B. CLARKSON, a native of the State of Virginia. The father, a man of excellent education and highly developed intellectual gifts, came to Florida in 1881 and engaged in the profession of teaching, which he followed at both St. Augustine and Jacksonville. For a time he, WALTER B. CLARKSON, took up the study of law, and in 1898 was admitted to the bar. He then took up the practice of his calling, which he followed with some success for a period of eleven years, attaining a recognized place at the bar and an eminent reputation. WALTER B. CLARKSON’s death occurred in 1910, at which time Jacksonville lost a citizen who had been upright, honorable and public-spirited and who had contributed through his influence to the welfare of the city. During the career of WALTER B. CLARKSON his fellow-citizens expressed their faith in him by choosing him as the incumbent of a number of offices, among them member of the City Council, member of the Board of Trustees of the Free Public Library and member of the Duval County School Board, and in all of these capacities he discharged his duties in an entirely capable and conscientious manner. He was a church man and lived his faith. WALTER B. CLARKSON was twice married, his first wife being Miss LEAH HARTRIDGE, who died in 1888, leaving two children. THEODORE H. and ANNIE. By a later marriage Mr. CLARKSON became the father of one child. THEODORE H. CLARKSON received much of his early educational training under the preceptorship of his accomplished father; and for two years was under the tutelage of private teachers, and also attended the public schools for a period of about 4 ½ years. As a lad, in order to have pocket money and also to work off excess energy, he sold and delivered newspapers on the streets of Jacksonville. He began to take part in small real estate deals when still a youth, and in 1908 embarked in this business as his regular line of endeavor. Mr. CLARKSON devotes himself to his business. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and is unmarried.
