When it is taken into consideration that PATRICK HENRY ODOM has been the legal advisor of the City of Jacksonville, for a period of more than twelve years, he will at once be placed among the efficient, industrious and versatile members of his calling. First elected city attorney in 1910, he has continued in this office to the present, without interruption, in addition to which he conducts a large and lucrative general practice, specializing largely in municipal and corporation law, in which he is conceded to be something of an authority. Mr. Odom was born February 3, 1874, at Lyons, Georgia, and is a son of JAMES H. and JANE (McNATT) ODOM. He received his early education in the public schools of his native place, subsequently attending Emory College, from which he was graduated in 1896 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts and in 1900 with the degree of Master of Arts. He then enrolled as a student at the University of Georgia, Athens, and was graduated from that institution in 1901, with honors, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Laws. During the same year he removed to Palatka, Florida, where he established himself in the practice of law and formed a partnership with the late BEN P. CALHOUN and A. NOBLE CALHOUN, the latter now of St. Augustine. A year later Mr. Odom moved to Jacksonville and joined the law firm of J. M. BARRS and NATHAN P. BRYAN. In 1903, after the dissolution of the firm, he became associated with Mr. Barrs, with whom he continued in practice until 1910, in March of which year he was elected city attorney. As before noted, he has remained in this office to the present, and has shown zeal and efficiency in behalf of the city’s interests ever since. In 1915 Mr. Odom formed a law partnership with J. T. G. CRAWFORD, and in 1916 J. TURNER BUTLER was admitted to membership in the firm. In 1917 Mr. Crawford withdrew from the association and Mr. Odom and Mr. Butler continued together until September, 1921, when their connection was mutually severed. Mr. Odom is justly considered as one of Florida’s foremost authorities on municipal and corporation law, to which he has devoted a large part of his practice, and his opinions are highly respected and have been repeatedly sustained by the courts. He is a valuable member of the Jacksonville Bar Association and stands high in the estimation of his fellow practitioners. As a fraternalist he holds me membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Sigma Nu fraternity, and his social connections are with the Seminole Club, the Florida Yacht Club and the Florida Country Club. In civic affairs he has always been constructive and progressive and his support has been withheld from no movement that has promise to be of benefit to the community or its people, either of the civic, educational, moral or charitable character. On September 15, 1917, at the home of the bride at McRae, Georgia, Mr. Odom was united in marriage with Miss EUNICE PITT. They have a charming home at Jacksonville, which is always kept hospitably open to their many friends.
