The cemetery is located on the property line between the two houses at 14858 & 14877 Capstan Dr. Notes: Harrison and Monimia West Staratt had four girls. Aurora Florine born 1868, was the oldest. She fell in love with a young man named Emmett Middleton. I think he worked on the old homeplace with or for her father. They becaue engaged and before they were married, he died of a fever and was buried on the property. No lasting marker was placed at the grave but a fence enclosed it as a reminder of where he was buried. According to the story, Aurora would place flowers on his grave regularly. She never married and lived out her life living the life of a nun. She wore a similar habit and we all called her 'Sister.' My husband, Jack, ran errands for her as a youngster. Says when Sister sent him to the store for ice cream, she always shared it with him. She always said that she wanted to be buried next to Emmett inside the fence but, when she died in 1957, the funeral home personnel were afraid to remove the fence, not knowing exactly the location of the grave, so they buried her outside the fence. Jack's mother never reconciled herself to the fact that they failed to honor her request. The site became the Starratt Cemetery. A monument bearing the inscription "Betrothed" now marks the resting place of Aurora and Emmett. We're just sorry that Jack's mother died before it was placed there.
