NOTES ON 1830 CENSUS, DUVAL CO., FLORIDA

1. Enumerator consistently put 2 individuals on one or more physical lines on 
each sheet, for a total of 27 individuals on each sheet. This resulted in having 
to carefully divide these lines into ##a and ##b, where ## was the line number 
they were combined on.

2. Enumerator brought page totals forward on each page (both A and B). These are 
entered as line 1a on each transcribed sheet, with remark "prev page totals".

3. Enumerator combined line totals on B pages on original document. Noted which 
lines were combined on each page in remarks.

4. Incorrect column total on page 17B. Male Slaves 55 to 100 total on original 
should be 13, but enumerator recorded it as 12. Original entry made on 
transcription, not corrected. This incorrect total is repeated on page 18B as 
well, and the error is not corrected in the entire document, making the total 
count off by 1.

5. Handwritten under the column totals on page 19B is the following:

"Correct Exd. by L. Baker.
nine sheets.

The number of persons within my division consisting of one thousand nine hundred 
and seventy appears in the fore-going schedule subscribed by me this 31st day of 
September in the year one thousand eight hundred & thirty __
Daniel C. Hart __ __________
Assistant to the Marshal of the Eastern District of Florida

We hereby certify that a correct copy of the above schedule signed by the said 
Daniel C Hart has been set up at two of the most public places within the 
Division open to the inspection of all concerned __ W J Mills.
