It is shown by the records that George _ Adams, private, company F (commanded by Captain Ochus), 2d Battalion Florida Infantry, C.S.A. F. ________________ The Adjutant General Pension file – A May 19, 1909 Hon P. D. Cassidey, Jacksonville, Fla. Dear Mr. Cassidey:- Replying to your letter with regard to Mrs. Adams, I can only say that there were two men named George Adams on the roll, one allowed in 1900 and the other in 1908. Both it has developed were deserters and should never have applied for pensions. The record obtained from the War Department shows that the George Adams you have written about was enlisted in Company F. 8d Battalion Florida Infantry, which afterward was transferred to the 11th Florida Infantry. Enlisted February 18, 1863. On the master roll dated April 30, 1864, last on file, he was reported as a deserter, dropped from the roll on March 10, 1864. These matters certainly are distressing and disagreeable beyond measure but what can one do? The proof filed was good, but as against the record, it is worth nothing. I have handled about twenty similar cases since I saw you and I assure you I wish this was the last of the class. Yours very truly, Secretary 1182 P. D.
