Bessie (maiden name Chance) Grimsley was born on 8-2-1886 in Higgsville, Twiggs 
County, Georgia and died on 5-8-1966 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida and 
is buried at Greenlawn Cemetery (Fl. DC # 66-024950). Her parents, William 
C. "Bud" Chance and Caroline "Carrie" Lee Chance are both buried at Mt. Zion 
Baptist Church Cemetery in Twiggs County, Georgia.

                                                                      Grimsley

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie (Big Mama) Grimsley, 78, widow of S. B. 
Grimsley, will be held at 3:30PM Monday in the Franklin Street Baptist Church, 
2521Franklin Street, with Rev. Roy F. Easterly, pastor, officiating. Burial 
will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, under the direction Estes-Krauss Funeral Home. 
Mrs. Grimsley, who lived at 1820 Hubbard Street, died Sunday in a Jacksonville 
Hospital. She was born in Georgia and lived in Jacksonville 26 years. She was a 
member of the Franklin Street Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, 
Mrs. E. W. Troupe and Mrs. Cecil Powell ; two sons, William B. Grimsley and Bob 
H. Grimsley, all of Jacksonville; a brother, John Chance of Danville, Ga.; five 
grandchildren, Mrs. R. G. Hale, Mrs. Robert Throwers, and Mrs. Judy Ann Combe, 
all of Jacksonville, Walter Grimsley at the Eglin Air Force Base in Pensacola, 
and Miss Judy Carol Grimsley, Atlanta, Ga.; and 13 great-grandchildren. 
Pallbearers will be Charlie C. Howell, Charles Lucas, Nick English, William H. 
Troupe, Reid Davis, and Herbert Morrow. Pallbearers are asked to meet in the 
church at 3:15PM.
