BINKLEY, ALMON CARLISLE has been for more than thirty years engaged in the practice of law, 
principally in the City of Pensacola, where he has well fortified status as one of the 
representative members of the bar of this section of the state.  He is a scion of a family 
that was founded in America in the early Colonial period, and his paternal great-grandfather, 
JACOB BINKLEY, a native of Pennsylvania, was a patriot soldier in the War of the Revolution, 
after the close of which he removed to Ohio and became a pioneer farmer in Clermont County.  
He there established his home in the year 1811, and there he continued his residence until 
his death.  The first of the BINKLEY family in America immigrated to this country from Germany 
and settled in Pennsylvania, the original form of the patronymic having been VON BINKLE.  
CHRISTIAN BINKLEY, grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born at Johnstown, 
Pennsylvania, in 1795, and was a boy at the time of the family removal to Clermont County, 
Ohio, where he was reared under the conditions and influences of the frontier period in the 
history of that commonwealth and where he gave his active life to agricultural industry, his 
death having occurred in that county in 1887.  In the civil war period he served as a member 
of the Home Guard, or local militia.  His wife, who died in 1870, was born in North Carolina, 
in 1800, her maiden name having been JOSEPHINE CAUDLE.

ALMON C. BINKLEY was born in Clermont County, Ohio, on the 19th of August, 1864, and is a 
son of LEWIS C. and LUCY (SIMONDS) BINKLEY, the former of whom was born in that county in 
the year 1829 and the latter of whom was born at Crown Point, New York, in 1831, her death 
having occurred in July, 1872, and her husband having thereafter continued his residence in 
his native county until his death, in November, 1894.  LEWIS C. BINKLEY graduated from Rochester 
College, Ohio, but was content to give his active career to farm industry in his native county, 
where he became specially successful in the raising of Shorthorn Durham cattle and Poland-China 
swine, he having been a pioneer in the raising of these fine types of livestock in that 
county.  He was a democrat in politics, was influential in public affairs in his county and 
was called upon to serve in various township offices.  He was a member of the Independent 
Order of Odd Fellows more than forty years prior to his death.  Of the children the eldest 
is CLARENCE C., a progressive farmer near the city of Spokane, Washington; MYRA is the wife 
of GEORGE E. ALTMAN, of Cincinnati, Ohio; HENRY M. owns and conducts an automobile garage 
in the City of Denver, Colorado, and is the owner of a fruit farm near that city; ALMON C., 
of this sketch, was next in order of birth; THOMAS ELBERT is a resident of Hamilton, Ohio; 
LUCY is the wife of CHARLES E. WITTMAR, a farmer in Clermont County, Ohio.

The preliminary education of ALMON C. BINKLEY was acquired in the district schools of his 
native county, and he early gained practical experience in connection with the work of the 
home farm.  For two years he was a student in a seminary at Goshen, Ohio, and thereafter 
he took scientific and classical courses in the National Normal University at Lebanon, that 
state.  He next became a student in the National Pen Art Hall and Business College at 
Oberlin, Ohio, and after leaving this institution, in 1884, he was for one year an instructor 
in the Emporia Business College at Emporia, Kansas.  He then came to Florida and for two and 
one-half years was a successful teacher in the schools of Santa Rosa County.  In the meanwhile 
he had applied himself closely to the study of law, and in 1890 he was admitted to the Florida 
bar at Pensacola, in which city he has since continued in the active and successful practice 
of his profession except for the interim between August, 1893, and January, 1896, during which 
he was in practice in the City of Cincinnati, Ohio, and the further interval from May, 1906, 
to May, 1914, when he was similarly engaged in the City of Indianapolis, Indiana.  His law 
offices in Pensacola are established at 713 Blount Building, and he is now attorney for the 
Federal Land Bank of the Third District of the United States.  He is also local representative 
of George M. Forman & Company, farm loan bankers in the City of Chicago, for which concern 
he has developed a large business in Escambia County, and surrounding counties in Florida and 
Alabama.  He has specialized in real estate law, particularly in the examining of abstracts 
and the perfecting of titles.  He is a democrat in political allegiance, and he and his wife 
are earnest members of the Christian Science Church, in which he has served as first reader.  
He is a past grand master of Pensacola Lodge No. 4, I.O.O.F., and also a past grand master 
of the Florida Grand Lodge of this fraternal order.  He is an active member of the Pensacola 
Chamber of Commerce and the Pensacola Yacht Club.  Mr. BINKLEY is the owner of valuable 
real estate in Pensacola, including his attractive home property, and he owns real estate 
also in Okaloosa County, this state, and Chippewa County, Michigan.  In former years he held 
valuable real estate interests in Alabama, Kansas, Ohio and Indiana.

January 20, 1892, recorded the marriage of Mr. BINKLEY and Miss HATTIE I. MOORE, daughter of 
the late WILLIAM and GERTRUDE (ROSEBOOM) MOORE, of Cincinnati, Ohio, where the father was a 
successful contractor and builder.  Mr. And Mrs. BINKLEY have two children:  FAITH, who is 
now stenographer and typewriter at the United States naval air station at Pensacola, graduated 
from the Shortridge High School and the Teachers College, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 
she has taught successfully in the schools of that city and also those of Pensacola.  GAIL,
a graduate of the Pensacola High School, is associate editor of the Polk County Record at 
Bartow, Florida.  She is an ex-president of the South Florida Press Association, and is now 
third vice president of the Florida State Press Association.
