Her native place was Abbeville District, S.C. She was the daughter of Gen. Andrew Pickens SIMPSON, so highly and deservedly celebrated as commander of the American forces, during our revolutionary struggle with Great Britain and the most distinguished hero in the Battle of the Cowpens. Her mother was Miss Rebecca CALHOUN, daughter of Ezekiel Calhoun, sister of John E. Calhoun, who died in Congress, and cousin of John C. Calhoun, present Senator from South Carolina. After having been educated in her native state, she was married to John SIMPSON, her first and only husband, at the age of 22 years. With him she lived 45 years, and became the mother of seven children, two daughters and five sons, the youngest of whom died at the age of two years. The remainder still live.
